With all the complaining about pp mapping, I feel like it would be interesting to see competition on maps before there was true pp farm maps, and I feel like the best way to do that would be to implement a separate leader board with ppv2 leader boards, but only counting scores from maps before ppv2 was released. That way we can see a leader board representing a more diverse skill set than the current pp-jump heavy aspect of the main rankings while still using the ppv2 system. It would also revive interest in a lot of older maps, as today we have much more play on newer maps than older maps as a result of the 2016 mapping meta.

I don't get what you are trying to suggest. Are you trying to say there should be a leaderboard for plays only set with ppv2? I don't see much point in this. I don't think it would add more competition, if there is a play from 2013 that still to this day is #1 then I think beating that score would be more of an accomplishment than beating others who aren't in the top 50 for that map.

There have always been maps that give lots of pp. It is more now with ppv2 than before but that doesn't change that there has always been maps giving tons of pp.

But why?
Let's say I got a score on a map I like before ppv2 came out. Then I play it again with ppv2 and the score will be gone
There are also too many people who started playing as of ppv2 and thus will never use the rankings. Then we also have the fact that this punishes non-farmers since only their pre-ppv2 scores are there

To summarize:
- Have another rankings
- Use ppv1
- Include only maps from before late 2014

That last one is a big no-no. If you want to see what this will result in, take a look at mania where you start to run out of ranked 4k maps as soon as you hit 4.5* or more, only in this case you will never get new maps. The monthly charts behave much as the legacy ranking you propose, only on modern maps too. Go enjoy that.

Concerning map quality due to current state of rankings:
It's obvious that map worth, and subsequently their popularity, is dictated by pp now-a-days. If you want "fix" mapping, propose a better pp system.
