I'm not sure if its before or after but I think that user uses the skin before the update.
I always see that the user always has a Black Rock Shooter background on his ranking results. [ Not by replacing the real background ]

Right now I'm at work so I'm unable to test if playfield will work when beatmap background is be deleted. (Probably will be only black screen, but I'm not sure about that.)
Will test this one after work. (Or if someone will do that before me).

playfield came in the skinnable nation long time ago and still exists until now.

Like I said it gives black screen. So these screenshots were made before update. Now you can only edit ranking-panel.png to cover ranking screen.

You can just create a textfile with notepad for example and change the extension.

like you make new textfile called: Skin.txt and just rename ist to Skin.ini


I also have a question. Are the skins downloadable which are shown in the ranking-panel section? i really want to know how they made the panel so far in the middle because on my skin and basically every other skin i saw, the position of the points doesnt change at all.

For transparency you alter the alpha value. In an RGBA code it will be the fourth number. Quick example; 255,255,255,255 is solid white, 255,255,255,0 is totally invisible. Note that not all RGB parameters used by the game accept an alpha value.

Also It helps to specify what part your editing.

I guess there is no more way to change the ranking background instead of overriding it.. 'orz

Deleting the background didn't work so I don't think there is really much use of "playfield.png" anymore..

This is actually controlled by the 'Shader effects' tic box in the graphics options, if you turn it off your screen won't have any effects applied like the health drain or kiai start flash.

Thanks, I'm not sure myself about this matter. No one ever posted 18+ skin so it never was a case (only ecchi skins but these didn't contain nudity).

There's another skinning element called masking-border.png. These are used to cover the sides for 4:3 resolution storyboards. On the left it's original, but on the right the element is flipped horizontally.



So my plan is: if we have two different sprite names masking-border-left.png and masking-border-right.png, it uses two different border images separately without flipping any of these sprites. Agree?

I don't think they do, it's just slider style 3 combined with that slider color shows more through your circle than the background of the non slider circle.

Your are probably on the beat of the circle in editor and the slider starts at a later time. Notes will gradually fade out when they get further away from the point you are in the song for editor.
Don't know the name of this 'point in song' cause I can't map ;(

some important advice for HD Skinners:

1. Double the Resolution of standard elements
2. Create That Element Using Bigger Images
3. Save that Element to (Filename)@2x.png
4. After you save that element, divide the HD resolution eg. 1332/2=666
5. Save it as (Filename).png
6. You have SD & HD Element Skinned

If you want to remove it completely, replace the 'ranking-graph.png' with an empty/full transparent image.
or
If they box is part of the 'ranking-panel.png', use some sort of software that supports transparency (Gimp, Photoshop etc.) and just erase it.

peppy (or someone else) gave that advice before you did.
It would be good to include that at the first post so other skinners can save time on making their skins..

fyi the slider is on play so I believe it should be on 100%

Hey guys, I need help. I downloaded this image to create a comboburst, it had a grey background and I followed the steps in the tutorial to make the background transparent. I saved it as .png. In game it looks like this:
What am I doing wrong ?

Edit: Ok i could fix it by coloring the background white first and then removing it. You have to select the color that will be made transparent and it is white by default in gimp. Since i couldnt figure out how to change it to the exact grey i have i could do it this way.

well sounds like the original image's deleted part didn't fully deleted, like 50% transparency left behind

So it wasn't white as you can see.
1. Use colour picker tool to select background colour : (with this you will see that background colour wasn't white (#FFFFFF) )



2. Now open that picked colour and copy it's HTML notatnion :



3. Select mask of character and open "Colour to alpha" and change colour by clicking on bar and pasting previously copied HTML colour notation.



Well these combobursts tutorials still need upgrade. ^^;

different hitcircle overlay appears in a different combo string

like:
hitcircleoverlay.png = 1st combo string
hitcircleoverlay-0.png = 2nd combo string

Is your hitcircleoverlay partially transparent?

osu! has a bug where the hitcircleoverlay is drawn twice on the head of a slider, making it less transparent.

The only thing you can do about it is make your hitcircleoverlay opaque, sorry :(

Okay, tested it and have some kind of conclusion.

Hitcircleoverlay were supposed to be animated.
Now is kinda funny to use. If you use hitcircleoverlay-0.png together with normal hitcircleoverlay.png then hitcircle will use only animated version. However Slider is using both, but beginning is additionally covered by "animation".
This way you can kinda create hitcircle that have different beginning and ending of slider. ;D

In your skin.ini under the [Colours] section you need to set your combo colors, that image uses 255,255,255 so if you want all your combos to be like that set the five combo# lines to white.

But when I try to use it myself the skin looks like this "in-game" http://prntscr.com/1lfsn0 As you can see it's kinda stretched. The download was a zip file, so I unzipped it into osu!>skins. How can I fix this? thx

It doesn't look stretched at all? It looks totally fine.

I think that has something to do with your system's language conflicting with the format of the .ini, I had a friend from Norway run into the same issue and I can't remember how he fixed it.

Trust me, it's really stretched on the one skin and minimized on the other skin or w/e. You should be able to see a clear difference from my screenshots and the guys video. I have a 1920x1080 resolution and the whole thing is stretched like sh#t. Also, when I put it to the default osu skin it was stretched and I had to uninstall my skins to have it normal again.

Well, video was posted almost year ago. Same with the skin that wasn't updated since that time. This year there was a lot of changes in skinning, including changes in some osu!mania options. You can try to fix it on your own.

Find in this skin files called 4k.ini 6k.ini and 7k.ini (well should be more of them but we will leave that).
Open desired option file (4k for example) and find line :

 ColumnWidth:56,56,56,56

And edit it in the way that you need. If is too stretched lower values to ColumnWidth:50,50,50,50 or less. Save and select skin in options again.

Note that mania notes bug out if you change their widths (which I think is what he's talking about, since his screenshot is totally fine), if you play 7k then play 4k the 4k notes will be super thin. Using non standard height notes just makes this worse. The only way to fix this is to restart osu and then not go into any other modes that change the widths.

The skin i want to do is a tribute to the anime, Rozen Maiden, Rozen Maiden Traumend, Rozen Maiden Ouverture, and the current one that is airing Rozen Maiden Zuruckspulen.

I would post it, but I'm at work right now. Will do that after returning to home. (but probably someone will be faster than me. ;).

You know what? Today I will test, select and edit/correct parts for new default template. Official template was posted in April contains only gameplay part (with few issues...). Now we have middle of August, yet still no updates.
Also, will correct old default template since some parts were removed from use.

So there will be 2 templates. Old one and New one. :3

Added new style template, a little updated with new parts, little mixed with old one to fill all missing parts.
Updated old style template by removing all parts removed from actual use, added missing parts to fit it to new skin.
Downloads in first post.

Probably missed something. If something missing is found I will add it... later. ;)\

Editing the hit particles works, but you HAVE to change the paired hit×.png aswell or it doesn't use the edited particle×.png.

Also I looked over the new template and I don't think you missed anything other than selection-mod-random.png but even I don't have that file.

Learn to work with what you have or get something better. Your only other option is to look for someone who is currently doing commissions, of which no one is doing so in this thread.

Learn to work with what you have or get something better. Your only other option is to look for someone who is currently doing commissions, of which no one is doing so in this thread.

I'm currently trying to make some fancier hitscores for mania mode, but am having some troubles due some of the default settings.

(failing on purpose to show all the different images, or at least trying to)

As you can see, the hacks I use to get around the current limitations (as I know them) have some weird side-effects. Also it only works in a single mode at a time; you have to replace the hitscore images if you change modes.

So basically my questions are:
  1. In the mania-specific ini files (4k.ini, 7k.ini, etc), is there a way to specify a horizontal offset for the "ScorePosition"? Everything i've tried has failed to parse, so I assume it's not implemented.
  2. Is there a way to disable hitscore animations in a skin.ini type of file? Just some way to stop it from being transformed/rotated after creation like it's doing in the video.
And if neither of those features are implemented, would the proper procedure be to make a new thread for it in the "Feature Requests" subforum?

1. Unfortunately not, you can only specify global vertical placement
2. Again unfortunately not.

Mania skinning is incredibly severely limited.

Feature request would be where you'd ask, although I believe there's a general thread for all the things that need to be in mania skinning in there already, though I forget what it's named.

I tried to use the sprite taiko-barline.png file but it doesn't work. I think this skin part was ignored all the time.

I'm doing a dubstep beatmap, I'm new in this.
You know there's the drop, and I wanted to add kiai time for that... But when I use it, there's only once the fountain and no flashing colours.
I saw dubstep beatmaps and there were a lot of flashing colours, just try "Fire Hive - Knife Party" and see by yourself.
I want to know how can I add flashing colours or any animation at the kiai time.
I tried also to put a video but it doesn't work, and in the other beatmaps, there's only an image...
By the way, I already searched on the forum but I didn't find anything, maybe I'm blind or maybe I'm just a n00b beatmapper ?-?
And I searched on Google too. Nothing.
Can you help me?

This isn't really a skinning inquiry, the beatmap in question uses storyboard effects and lots of kiai on/offs to pull off its look, and If videos don't show for you globally you might want to check your options to see if you disabled them.

My advice would be to open that map up in the editor and study how the storyboard is used then experiment in your own map.

Edit: Ok, I tried to press "Colour" and than to add a keyframe. It asks to choose a colour, I do it. Than I press ok. I try to test, nothing happens.

Hey guys, i really appreciate the guys working on this thread and i hope someone could help me here.

So the problem is the long notes on osu! mania, and i'm having a hard time fixing it. The long notes starts on the left side of the column and kind of flickers while being pressed. Its probably something about the animation, since the long notes have 5 files. So i hope someone could help me out here about animations or something to fix this minor skinning problem.
Pink notes seems to be working fine. This occurs on the yellow notes sometimes but always occurs on the silver ones.

Im using the New Default Template skin, so maybe theres something wrong with my pc? i have no idea.
