Round 41: Pre-Spinner Notes

Nominated by NoHItter. Basically a note/slider placed directly before a spinner. The note gives the "beat" while the spinner provides resolution to that beat. The spinner usually follows 1/2, 1/3/ 1/4 or 1/6 after to not sound disjoint from the note. Earlier maps overlapped the note and the spinner. (Overlapping them is unrankable now though)

Map(s) that use this technique
Tomohito Nishiura - Professor Layton's Theme mapped by Matma Rex
Hideyuki Ono - Classic Party Triathlon mapped by Sushi
Eiko Shimamiya - Super Scription of Data mapped by jockeytiyan

always use it, but not because i love it... just need a solution for the problem there's no hitsound at the beginning of spinner.
then it makes the spinner part worse than common way... meh.

usually use this 1/4 after the note, never see one where it in 1/6 after the note though

also the third example map link to DJPop's map not jockey's

These can work nicely in some situations, but are occasionally used unnecesarily which can be pretty jarring.

5'd, they help a lot when the start of the spinner is as epic as the end, 'cause you cannot place a hitsound at the start of the spinner and such

Am I the only one that hates this :|

Mostly thinking when there is only 1/8 before a spinner though.

I use these a lot 1/4 after the beat.

so 4/5.

Spinner 1/4 after a note.
I love this, voted 5. I find it more natural to click the beat and then spin than to only spin.

Voted 5. I Usually suggest people to do this when applicable on my mods.

Weird on taiko but great on osu!

Guilty of using this too much.

I don't think it's necessary but they work when used. 3

These need to be used cautiously. They can't be too close to the spinner, and the spinner can't be too short. Beginning the spinner a 1/2 after the note achieves the same effect as closer.

I love these. It's just that some people start the spinner waaay too soon and it feels wrong. Let the hitsound/tempo/music you decide to start help dictate when to start up the spinner (usually 1/4 or 1/2 feels best) Voted 4

Hmm 3, i'm neutral for this.
However...just to say, i hate after-spinner notes.

This is a must! The spinner doesn't add any sound so you have to do this!

Feels very nice, especially if the preceding pattern happens to move in at least a clockwise/anticlockwise motion, making the spinner feel like a natural continuation of the pattern. For me, this sensation becomes more apparent if the spinner comes right after a sweeping slider. Mmmm, yes. I enjoy using this.

Of course, if there's an overly complicated pattern right before the spinner and then the spinner acting as a glorified slider, then that's not so good.

Some people use the start of the spinner as a beat itself, but I prefer the extra circle there. It feels more... finished.
