YOU PEOPLE SUCK ****
YOU SHOULD GO DIE IN A FIRE
I'd usually not comment on such things but...

A different generation of people dies (that's not even the problem here) and they go off and say that?

*shakes head in disbelief*

This has actually reminded me why I am so slow to open up to people -.-

I'm glad to hear that my favorite artists are safe! I hope the number of dispersed people will decrease.

You're not possibly serious are you?

"As more than 1,000 bodies wash ashore in Miyagi prefecture, there are fears that the death toll from the devastating earthquake in Japan could top 10,000. The fate of tens of thousands of residents of the worst-hit areas remains unknown, officials say."

Not only that, millions without water and power, and nuclear plants failing. How is it possibly not as bad as it sounds like?
Shael_old
It's not as bad as the media makes it look like, that's what I meant with it

For sure it's bad, but not that bad as they want to tell us

maybe you mean greenpeace, but this is clear why they make it look like it's worse... the japanese media makes unclear announcements, they want to cool down the citizens, that they don't fall in panic...

that goes without saying for any disaster, or any media in general. Either stretch the truth or dodge counter-points etc to inflate it. It's more interesting when it seems like the end of the world

This also happened in Chile's earthquake and, let's say, the miners ~
The meltdown is srs bssnss though, hope everything get's solved quickly

This is just disgusting. You're using this disaster as a platform to show us how smart you are and how naive the rest of us are, giving us some "don't believe everything you read" lesson? Of course we know the media sensationalizes, how is that any reason to care any less about this?

Plus, no news outlet suggests that the tsunami blew up out of the middle of the Honshu island and wiped out 10 million people in-land, which would just barely make a noticeable difference to that osu! World Map.

Recently got into contact with a personally close friend who has been studying abroad in Japan for the past year or so. Thank goodness he's safe. He lives maybe an hour away from Sendai and he has absolutely no gas or water and limited food. His entire dormitory complex has had to have community hot pot meals where everyone brings something to contribute. Very few places are open and the restaurants that actually are open are packed with people eating and watching the news together. Just hearing this, and knowing that he lives an HOUR away from Sendai and his life has been reduced to minimal food and water gives you an idea about how everyone closer to the shore has had to deal.

He was pretty lucky that he overslept the day of the tsunami since he was planning to take a train east to Sendai.

Utada Hikaru is safe thank god.

I hope that everything is returned to normal soon and the the death toll stays low.

Also I heard that people who lived close to the reactors were given pills to prevent cancer?
I head that on the news and was like........lol wut those exist?

>implying im using the disaster as a platform to show how smart i am

why would i want to show how smart i am with comon sense

either way, dont really need to argue about it when you got so butthurt cuz i was right

edit : also if you don't know what i mean, i still mean it's a bad happening, but it's not a world ending disaster like the news show it

i have some friends in japan too and donated for the japan red cross already, but my opinion stays, so don't think arrogant of me

So much credit got to go to the brave people who are working inside the reactors, trying to keep them under control.

Look, no offense aimed at anyone here, in the osu! community, in Japan or anywhere else for that matter but....you people are only so concerned because it's Japan. If it was in another area of less importance to you otakus, you probably wouldn't take notice.

To an extent, you're right. But it's quite disgusting to even think about that since a disaster is a disaster.

a nuclear reactor exploded too, 250 km from Tokyo, damn hell..

My prayers to Japan.

Moments like these always illustrate the kindness and togetherness of people.
But sadly they also remind me there are always people posting crap to act cool.
Gabi
For the people who says that it "isn't THAT bad", well i can understand how you can get this image because the japanese government is trying to cover it up by saying that everything is alright, while it actually is really bad. Why do they do this? it's because they don't want to cause panic and chaos among the people in the affected areas.

Currently in the nuclear plant they believe that every single reactor has issues (broken/burning/leaking etc).

There are still lots of people without water (and toilets for that matter)

Let's see.. Japan is the 2nd largest group of users on osu! And you think its a suprise? Use your brain..

This is common after earthquakes, but yeah. Volcanoes have had more activity there lately. The japanese area is very geologically active, eventually something has to happen.

I bet about 10% of the people being supportive in this thread have actually given money to support this crisis.

I don't have the spare change, otherwise I would. (Besides my interest in Japanese pop culture, my Mom has coworkers in the area and I have a friend who has family there, too, so this has overall hit me pretty personally once I realized how bad things really were getting.)

That being said, I'm hoping to auction off some fanfic writing to people who help donate so I can at least help in *some* way.

Not everyone has money to give, for financial reason, age, etc. Why do you need to give money to be supportive? Support isn't only given by cash. Don't be naive.

ten thousands of people died. large citys are completely destroyed and land is poluted of radioactivity because of a catastrophe in nuclear plants. people are homeless and dont know where to go or leave the country. think about this too and not only about japan because not everyone worrying is a otaku as you say. your words may also offend or hurt people here so you should think twice before you post your tasteless replys.

No , he's pointing that Haiti got like the same attention also so what LaVolpe is saying doesn't really make sense since Japan and Haiti are totally opposite in terms of that theory he's talking about.

there is no catastrophe in nuclear plants (yet).
they have like 500 backup plans if something goes wrong so i wouldnt be too afraid yet.
tsjernobyl was a big human error, that doesnt mean every meltdown causes the same disaster.

Isn't there some big team of firefighters now send to the powerplant to keep it cool?

inb4 people go OMFG THEY RISK THEIR LIVES OH NOES SILLY JAPANESE GOUVERNMENT, well atleast they have the balls (and maybe even bigger balls afterwards) to do so. They are true heroes.

I'm well aware, but nonetheless if people are as passionate as many of them try to appear in this thread, then they should show their support with their actions. There are many ways to donate, very few people here would be unable to.

Mashley wrote:

Quite, that. It's easy to give up when encountering the first obstacle (in some cases lack of revenue, in some cases no credit card/debit card/means of online transaction) but if you actually give a damn I'm pretty sure it wouldn't take long to figure out a way, even in your local community, to contribute to the relief efforts.

I just read on twitter that a new eathquake hit Japan, 7.1 this time..
Tsunami warning has been giving.

'7.1 earthquake, near the east coast of Honshu, Japan. Apr 7 11:32pm at epicenter (13m ago, 66km E of Sendai, depth 26km)'

Source: http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/ ... 002ksa.php
Behon
If they get hit a third time right after this one, they must be cursed or something.
NoHitter
The source says it's 7.1 not 7.4.
Anyway, if it is true, wth is with nature these days. Can't it cut people some slack...

Has nothing to do with being cursed, Japan is one of the most geological active areas around the world, and it being right on the ring of fire.
