Yes, I know that having the Editor in fullscreen mode itself isn't possible due to the GUI elements.

But I'd really like to have an option that causes the editor to automatically switch into fullscreen when clicking "Test", and back to windowed when returning to edit mode.
The reason is that high diff maps aren't really playable in the lag that comes from windowed mode; switching to game mode and playing through the whole map just to test one small part isn't feasible either.
Briefly speaking, it's impossible for me to properly test Insane maps.
The requested feature should be relatively easy to implement and solve this problem. :)

...what?

Setting the frame limiter to VSync causes huge lag on mouse cursor movements for me, making the game effectively unplayable.
Windowed mode is not as horrible, but still bad enough to make playing insane maps very hard.

Yeah, I get this too, but it would have to switch from fullscreen and windowed every single freakin time you hit that F5 button. Also, this would probably mean another toggle. Plus, when testing Insane maps, you kinda don't need to really be playing as focused as you usually are, test mode is there to get an idea of if something is wrong or not. So, no support.

Autoplay is useful, but you can't really check how a map "feels" (spacing, OD and such) if you're not playing it yourself.

Well, that's exactly what I requested. It's what I currently have to do manually (by going to the play menu) whenever I wanna testplay :o
Claudia_old
weird, I was suggesting this the other day

I actually expected the editor to switch back to fullscreen when entering test mode (when I tried using fullscreen to test a bug the other day), so I guess that this would make sense (and shouldn't need a toggle since fullscreen already switches to windowed upon entering the editor). :/

I didn't mean to enable Autoplay, but you can still sort of play anyways so that should be sufficient.

I was saying that it would be annoying for osu! to switch back and forth and have your screen spazzing out when adapting to fullscreen and back. It's like alt-tabbing dozens of times.
Lunah_old
I think is no-sense

No support if it would rely on if I normally played in full screen or not. I play in full screen but test in windowed mode just fine. There's no lag or anything. It would be a pain to keep on going back and forth.

If it was, say, F0 having you test in full screen, then that would be welcomed.

not really, the change from the main menu while playing fullscreen to picking a beatmap to load in the editor [switch to windowed] is pretty flawless, so what's the difference?

for some of us ~100fps, which generally in Windowed Mode I cap at around 80 but fullscreen I get 200

^ Support for fullscreen testing as a separate button.

No support for OP.

Wait, why? I suggested a toggle in the options, something like "switch to game resolution during testing". <- (including the window mode)

In my opinion that makes more sense, since players will decide to either permanently use this option or not. No need for using up 2 different hotkeys; by the way, I always click "Test" instead of using them, and 2 Test buttons would make even less sense.

I can imagine the window mode switching can be annoying for people who don't have that lag problem, so I never requested for it to be forced on everyone.
Ekaru
A toggle would be annoying to me since sometimes I *do* want to test in Full Screen, which is why I support just having another button for it. Or have a toggle in the Editor, not in Options, so I can switch between the two easily.

I do support this feature, but want it done in a way that I can make use of it easily. That's all.

I often plays map on fullscreen so I'm not comfortable with testing a map on window screen
also this

Will be more better with FS mod. Support!

Bumping.

More or less it's added since you can go into the Editor with the highest resolution. However the Full screen switches back to the "windowed" mode if you go at the Editor.
Bobbias
That switch is a pain in the ass for me. I use the opengl renderer, and windowed fullscreen (well, setting osu to my monitor's resolution in windowed mode) has issues with alt+tab, but fullscreen doesn't. Any time I enter edit mode, I need to remember to back out to settings and switch to fullscreen, or I end up with alt+tab not working correctly (which forces me to enter the editor or change the options again in order to do anything outside osu).

Having an option to switch to fullscreen mode for testing would be handy, and so would osu remembering that I had fullscreen enabled before I entered the editor...
Tenderz
Why is this still not a thing.
I fully support this idea. It would save a lot of time for me just testing a specific part of a map while actually being able to get my 240 FPS.
What I have to do right now is:
- Exit edit mode
- Switch to play mode
- Find my map if it's not already selcted
- Play the map
- Wait till I get to the part that I actually want to test (Or I have to make a new difficulty to just test a specific part  )

I get that some people might say that the windowed mode performance is enough for testing maps,
But if you're mapping high-paced 5-7 Star maps or just want to the timing of a map, windowed mode just doesn't work (It cuts my FPS and Input precision about in half or more)

If the editor just automatically switches to your preferred gameplay setting that would be great.

Bumping.
Having the same issues :|

When you think about it, whenever the next UI overhaul happens, the windows menus can be replaced by ingame UI so fullscreen is 100% supported in the editor and testmode. I'm not saying it will happen but who knows.

Refer to next.ppy.sh about more concepts.

Confirming that this won't be implemented until the design is updated, which could be sooner than you think.

Sounds really interesting. :3
