What are your thoughts on One Punch Man?

At first I was opposed to watching this series for some reason, but finally gave in and started it. I genuinely laughed my ass off at some parts and the animated fight scenes look great. But once you delve a bit deeper into the fundamentals of the anime, it is a rather generic "hero always wins" and "OP main character" type of anime. However, I think that it knows this and that's what makes One Punch Man an insanely funny show. Although it isn't finished airing yet, anyone with a brain can determine the outcome that the heroes with triumph over the monsters. I just feel like it could use a little more suspense or something to set the audience on the edge of their seat. Anyway, that's my two cents :D let me know what you guys think of it!

Is it generic when it is very obviously a parody of the shounen genre? I thought it was super obvious that the "100 push up, sit up, squats and 10km run" was a mockery of the secret training shounen protagonists take part in for example.

I watched it after a bunch of retarded friends if mine recommended saying "It's fucking funny" etc. I didn't actually find it that funny. I can understand why people would find it funny but many of the gags are overly-used. The only things that I really laughed at were when the Gorilla they interrogated confessed after having his cool mask broken and when Saitama reveals how he thinks he became so strong and he honestly believed his training was near-impossible in terms of difficulty.

On the other hand, the animation is great. Surprised that the budget is nothing speciak and actually similar to Madhouse's previous adaptations. I commend that studio for the sheer effort they put in. It's a shame however that the main character's 'fights' end instantly after one punch. Everything besides the plot is so predictable one you see the first few fights.

I continue to watch it for that flying loli with green hair.

We could have a long discussion over whether the Japanese are actually capable of funny writing versus they just get lucky sometimes. I swear they are more animes that are complete failures of comedy to actual funny ones.

I haven't seen much anime when you compare me to people like you so I can't fully understand. Could you tell me an anime based on comedy that you considered funny in a clever sense and was memorable because of that humour?

O_o That was actually next on my list, believe it or not. Hearing a description of it from a friend made the comedy sound silly so I started having doubts about watching it too soon. "A photoshopped face in the animation every episode" is what I've heard. Since it's coming from you I guess I'll watch it soon then.

It's satire. The photoshopped face isn't really the comic style the series takes at all

Seeing as it's a Shaft anime, just knowing the title is enough to tell me that it is going to be satirical, unless the director suffered a short phase of depression. I just have a lot of trouble with trusting friends when it comes to anime; I had to experience the opening of Boku no Pico to figure out I was tricked the hard way. Well, goodbye mr despair is on the list now.

I really enjoyed it and thought it was very funny at first, but as I kept reading/watching it the anime got pretty stale. Gags are recycled and everything's dead in a few seconds.

One of my favorite of the season, mostly because I've been following the Webcomic since some years now.

I like the anime so much. It's super-funny anime 'till your stomach want to explode when you laugh but in the same time the action fight scene is the best part. I'm sure this is the anime of the year.
