It's quite annoying. I went to click a link just now and accidentally hit the banner, closing osu!.

I always update as soon as it comes up but I can see why it would be annoying otherwise

This was discussed a while ago in irc between a few of us and peppy. Ideas floated around such as automatically updating when opening osu! (osume would pop up instead of osu!), or a small popup message (or something) upon a new update instead of the current full-screen behavior. :p (+support)
