Heya guys, just a quick post to let you all know about a project Cyclone and I have started working on. It's a Let's Play series on youtube, starting with Megaman X1. We intend to play through X1, 2 and 3, and then move onto some other games once we get a little more comfortable with our commentary styles and whatnot.

We will be covering ALL the upgrades, and many of the hidden lives among other things. We aim for 100% completion and will show you where everything can be found.

If you're interested, our channel can be found HERE

(The channel is also a work in progress, no profile information or anything to speak of just yet. But it's coming.)

Good! I love LPs and Megaman so I'm really excited for this project!

If I might state my point of view. I think there's should be more comedic value in the future videos.

What makes a good LP is the jokes that are made. Although, it's a very good first attempt. Keep at it.

I just recently went on to youtube looking for some Let's Plays of some games (due to a friend playing one etc.) and god the people talking over these videos were so dull and boring to listen to and hard to understand at times (also far too loud at times).
I always intended to play the Mega Man X games but could never really get past the first stage or two before just giving up out of a combination of enjoying the NES style games more/frustration/something else so I'm actually quite enjoying just watching this.

Don't really mind the lack of jokes all the time in this.

Cool. Adding some more comedic value would definately help out, but I'll be following this.

Part 2 is now being rendered, uploaded in the next half hour or so, hopefully.

Now with moderately more humour and a little more fluent commentary.

Quality still sux :(

PS - Some crude humour on this one, nothing too extreme, just a little bit unfriendly for younger peeps.

Edit - Should be public now! Youtube says it's done processing :)

Heh, just watched the 1st and 2nd parts, quite nice. Too bad you're not aiming for the PSX versions as well.

Anyway, subscribed, keep going. xd

This might be EVEN MORE picky but...the comedy should really relate to the game that you're playing.

A good example would be when Cyclone abused the Shotgun Ice for the Mammoth but...

Sorry. All I have is negative ciritism but it's really good! I learned a lot from it
Cyclone
I didn't want to talk over dake....
Lilac
Yeah, I understand, he was in a middle of talking about his story.

I'm sorry. T_T

Any criticism is appreciated, don't apologize. And you're welcome to interrupt me Cyclone :P

On the topic of humour though - We're going for a bit of a chuggaaconroy style with our LPs, I'll continue to read story bubbles and such, and we'll cover as many secrets as possible. It's more an informative style than a comedic style. That said, I agree we could use a little more game related humour if not just to keep things a little more interesting. I think as we go on with this we'll fall more into the flow of running commentary and be a little more ready to toss the occasional joke or two into there.

I don't have the time to watch these atm, but I do want to add something to the people going LOL I LUV TEH JOEKZ!!1!
Forcing yourself to try to be funny usually exacts in the opposite, making it unfunny, annoying garbage. Let's look at the roots of LPs. They started on Something Awful. The reason I find a LP interesting is when it's over perhaps an obscure game I would normally be unwilling to play, but would watch to get a good depth of information on the game. The X series seemed kind of generic and done to me, but I guess since some people said they hadn't played it yet I guess it's okay for them to watch. Anyways, there are "funny" LPs, especially on SA, that are very clever and situational. These can be clever editing mentions (I lol'd for real when a streamer started playing Under the Sea when Link went underwater into Hyrule in Windwaker), or immediate commentary which shows a skill of quick, clever thought. It really isn't that hard when you apply video game logic to normal, real conventions. But constant jokes, references, and general silliness usually result in something painful to listen to.
I feel Retsupurae, a duo of LPers from SA do a good job of highlighting the dos and don'ts of LPs, as they voice over other LPs generally making them somehow more watchable because their commentary can actually be funny.
Like I said earlier, I actually like informative LPs about obscure games I may otherwise be unaware of or not know certain facts about, but I also like videos with no voice over. You have no idea how annoying it is when I'm trying to watch the cutscene of a game and some whiny cunt is squeeing over it or something. I also get a bit irritated when I want to see a gameplay video of something but I get a long introduction about the personal life of a Youtube LPer instead. Really I came to see the game, not your shitty relationship drama. I'm not saying just play it, that's already up on Youtube, just don't fall into any of the drone pits.
Regardless, this is all up to you guys what you do, but don't let things get too your head to much and become another shitty, generic Youtube LP.

tl;dr:
Don't force yourself to be funny because people are like I LIEK TEH JOKEZ

Also my favorite Youtube LP the LSD: Dream Emulator LP by MikeNmonic. The game is interesting enough to warrant me wanting to learn more about it and Mike has certainly done his homework revealing lots of interesting things about the game throughout his adventure that I may not have been able to do on my own. His commentary is good enough to be soothing and entertaining while the game is dark and lonely, but his voice is never intrusive with the interesting games. He always shuts up during the cutscenes so we don't get a watered experience and is genuinely funny at points. I wouldn't strive to emulate his style, but try and hit the proper contrast like he did.

Yeah, I do agree with Pokebis...

Don't force yourself to be funny either as well... Man, it's really hard to explain this.

Very hard...

It's all good guys, I'm sure as we go on we'll find a good flow that works commentary wise. The X series is more or less our beta test of our LPability. We're planning to move onto some more obscure games, including an RPG or two. We'll cover 100% completion, generally, and as far as cutscenes and whatnot go - We'll not talk over legitimate cutscenes. In the Megaman X series, the "cutscenes" consist of text blocks where the characters are saying stuff. As I've been doing so far, I'll probably continue to read them out loud, usually in a voice I feel fits the character.

As always, any and all feedback is welcome. Doesn't mean we'll take it to heart, and some of it we'll flat out not use. But everyone's opinion counts on some level, so at the very least we'll consider what people have to say.

Also, thanks for watching :)

(PS - I plan to start up a side project, likely solo as it doesn't seem to be netplayable, so dual commentary will be difficult to make work. It will likely be on the same youtube channel, I'll just playlist them so each game is separate and I'll mark if it's both or just one of us doing the commentary.)

Sorry for the double post, but just wanted to let you guys know that the b-side of our LPs is up and running now. I'm solo playing through the game "Knytt Stories", lots of fun so far, and I think I'm getting into the flow of LPing :)
