[Rule Change] Skinning dimensions restriction

Do not make any essential gameplay elements larger than template skin dimensions (especially for combobursts). Larger elements may effect gameplay performance, and thus should be avoided. However, any elements that do not directly effect gameplay (e.g. pause-back, play-skip, etc.) may be slightly larger if a legitimate reason is given.
The purpose of this rule is to set a nice marginal resolution of a skinning element to prevent gameplay performances getting bothered by a gigantic skin. Now however since the template skin has changed and got compact, the acceptable range of hitburst skinning for example has been highly restricted. This single rule is making the old EBA, ouendan, and even the old osu! template skin a forbidden one that should never appear in the ranked section. Is this how the original rule was purposed?

There is a skin that best fits the intention of the mapper, and that is why a custom skinning exists. There are a variety of skins, but this rule is blocking mappers to use the other big stream of the skin. Rule should allow mapper to use the skin they want as long as it doesn't terribly damage the gameplay.

This rule existed since 2012 which is before when the new template skin has appeared. This rule is outdated, and the contents fail to achieve the original purpose of the rule.

Considering the narrow leniency range the current template skin is providing, this rule would rather suit better as a GUIDELINE.

This is rather a matter of filesize restriction being a hard limit.
Larger image dimensions consume more disc space. Since HD elements are also supported on beatmap skins, this alone can take up to 10MB.
Especially uncompressed images take even more space since they can be up to 1MB or even more depending on dimensions.

I know that no mapper would even consider using HD elements since this is possible, but I think this rule still holds its value in regards to HD skins.

Well if youre going to talk about outdated, those skins are outdated too. Especially the combobursts, since they literally could impede gameplay by blocking notes due to their size. It worked in EBA because of the mapping style. However, now its only detrimental. Its a part of osu!s past that developers felt was unnecessary to keep

The only benefit i see from changing this rule would be if someone were to map an EBA Authentic map, which hasnt happened since 2011 I think.

Also, keep in mine that these rules only apply to skins designated for individual beatmaps. If you still want to use skins that are larger, go for it.

Pretty much this, new mapping styles made old skin very messy when it comes to reading because it will hide objects below circles and also the approach circles will blend or cover with it. New skin increased playability of new maps very much and it apparently was a purpose.

Well anyways the current rules are even regulating skin cursors like https://osu.ppy.sh/s/192763 because just simply it's bigger than the template skin.
(It passed the quality check somehow)

What I mean is that this rule needs some space for exceptions that can fit the map nicely enough. Not getting restricted by a certain pixel.
