I was sure that I had 482 PP but I played a song (I failed) then I looked at my profile it was showing 479 PP ??? Can PP go down ??

Yes, possible.

If you somehow managed to get a higher score play with less combo and accuracy than the previous play, it will replace it and you'll lose pp.

That is because the current system prioritizes score over pp, and bigger score amount doesn't mean bigger pp.

It usually does, and this being the case is fairly unlikely.

Edit: I just noticed that you mentioned you failed, if that's the case then your pp didn't change, plays only submit if you complete the map.

unless you mean you broke combo

Oh Thank you I get it now :)
edit: Yep that happened to me :) I got a B on a song but with less combo I think thats the reason

It's probably unlikely in this case, but if you set a score on a qualified map which was later disqualified, your score on that map (and any pp it would have awarded) would have been lost. In this way, you can "lose" pp at the time the map is disqualified, which could occur whilst you're playing another map, or even when you're not online at all!

I wouldn't worry too much about it though - just enjoy playing the songs/maps, pp playing is stressful ;)
