This is happening to me every time I play and its really frustrating. I see theres a song that i have an old score on that i can easily improve/ i play an easier song to warm up and improve usually a B/low A to an S or high A, and i lose ranks for it. I thought it might just be because its the first song i play and my rank hasn't updated until a score is submitted, but its happened multiple times within a handful of songs and its annoying. Why?

You have a somewhat low rank, so it's normal for your rank to fluctuate a bit. What matters is your PP, chances are your PP isn't going down, it's just that other people around your level are passing you up in PP.

maybe, but the rank updating seems to be sporadic and only after a song is finished playing. look at this http://www.twitch.tv/dlh112/v/10402335
see 2:15 then 4:30 where i improve my oracion score, but it doesn't affect my rank, then i lose 6 ranks after water horizon for no reason (maybe because of my oracion score?). also at 17:30 i lose a rank after improving my speedcore 300 hard score.

Daily, about 20 people pass my rank, and within the day I play a lot of easier songs to get better scores on them, I lose 1~4 ranks depending on how long ago I played the last song. I sometimes don't lose ranks for a while, and instead gain ranks after a few songs. I'd say it's just refreshing your rank, and since you're not gaining much from these plays, you're not able to counter the loss of ranks. An example of this would be gaining a rank every 10 easy song, but that takes about 30 minutes, and by that time, you may have lost your rank to 5 other people, pushing you down from 6k to 6004.DLH112 wrote:

Sometimes I don't lose ranks at all, but I notice that my rank falls much more at certain times in the day. You might have a lot of competitors in other places in the world.
To sum it up, every moment you're not ranking up, you're losing ranks. The score update is just more active when you play more without any big progress.
I used to be rank ~800, now I'm over 1000 because I haven't been playing. My PP isn't dropping, but players around my skill level are gaining more PP and passing me in the ranks. The same thing happens at lower ranks much more quickly because there are a lot more players with similar skill levels to you.
phenomenon of pp calculation, pp weight, and rounding. You may improve in a score, get enough pp to have that score be weighted higher as a percentage, then actually lose pp in the process, this all balances out over time because you have a low rank, I wouldn't worry as breaking a skill wall may net you like 200 rank on a single song. Summary, dont sweat the loss of rank, as getting better gives pp rain by itself.
