Hey there all o/

So recently i have taken part in the monthly beatmap contest which was the one song for CTB Only called : “Hylian Lemon - Foresight Is for Losers”

It seems though that i had a couple of friends who also took part in the contest and were struggling with this song as they either did not enjoy it or was simply too hard to map for many reasons.

So i thought of an idea to introduce a voting system for the next contests to come where the community can vote out of a choice of about 5 or maybe more songs that the osu team have set out for people to pick. These i hope would be 5 or more songs with different style/genre's so there is more variety to choose from. I just find also that it's not fair for the community to be stuck with mapping a song they did not ask for but are still pushing themselves due to it being a contest that they want to win. Some even gave up in the last contest due to these reasons.

Some time ago, for a mapping contest, there were 3 active songs
Got changed, no idea why
This is wayy better (this request)
I really dislike those songs Kuba Oms, Tear Rain, Flakypla (idk)
Perhaps better songs will be chosen next cause this is an incredibly good idea

Supporting this. I was really looking forward to participating in the CtB MBC but I really couldn't bring myself to like the song at all which was a shame. With a voting method you'll still have some people left disappointed but I feel it would be a fairer system overall.

Why would you need to be "picky" on song genres? If this thing applies, most mappers are just going to upvote anime songs for sure ;p lol

I'm not bothered on what kind of song MBC has putted in. If you don't like the song or any various reasons, for what would you join in then? just for the title/supporter tag? o_o

Well then perhaps a different genre per month could come into play here. So one month it's about anime/vocaloid songs and the next could be.. i dunno something like dubstep. It gives a nice rotation then

(EDIT: I love my electronic music!)

songs need to be CC. if you can find any anime or vocaloid that are CC i'll be dam impressed. EDM is generally what you'll find when looking for CC songs, so it's what gets used

Excellent idea, perhaps having the voting for the song for a week or so before beginning the contest.

i'm actually tempted to deny this looking back at it. having a voting time might ruin some things as it gives people more time to actually make their entries. so unless the voting is done behind the scenes(which would kinda defeat the point of this thread), i don't see this happening :/

Couldn't song voting for the next contest happen during the mapping/judging process for the current contest? Assuming there's a reasonable number of choices, I don't see potential entrants mapping multiple songs until they know which one is going to be used for the contest.

So if there are 5 songs mappers can choose from, some mappers will just map 18-24 diffs? O.o
That's insane

no quite. the idea is people can vote for what map they want used for the contest.

If not the song, why not at least let people vote for characteristics?
Like Duration, Aprox BPM, Genre, Artist, Non-w/Vocals.

I get this might just make stuff more complicated but it's another alternative if things don't work out with the initial idea.

Well first it would be nice to hear from ztrot if deadbeat does contact him or he see's this for himself. I kind of agree with JBH though and that is what i was thinking too to plan ahead. Or perhaps as dorothy3242 mentioned about a week or 2 before the contest starts.

If it does seem to go down the toilet i can try this out possibly but would still like to see the threads purpose to be applied more than this

(Perhaps ztrot or deadbeat could maybe come up with a alternative way to do this like your suggestion if there is some disagreements.)

(Edit : I did mention something about genre selection though that you have in bold after Veyron's post which it would be a new genre per month although EDM seems to only be the best for CC reasons)

Hope they won't choose a song like a fast-rave music and a vocaloid songs.

This very much, I dropped both CtB variations of the MBC as I didn't enjoy mapping the songs at all. Being able to choose a genre would be a lovely option and would push forward some more entrants to actually create a competition that isn't really present in other modes (Hello CtB).
