Some Extras only as hard as Insanes?

This difficulty, which says it is an Extra, seems to be only an Insane both in the computer's eyes and mine... why is it like that?

I have another example, but I won't bother putting it here.

You could try looking at the star rating and ignore the diff name as that's meaningless and arbitrary.

This can be the case with every difficulty rating. When the map was ranked, the star rating only went up to 5 stars, and there wasn't a 5.25 star point where maps were rated as extras. So it was named an Extra because it's a difficulty harder than the Insane.

The star rating system on osu! isn't all that consistent, as winber1 mentioned.

Difficulty names means literaly nothing.

Ignore the difficulty name and look at the Star rating
Insane diff is from 3.8 stars to 5.2 stars

I think if I ever make maps, I will reverse the names of my maps purely to spite people who don't look at star ratings. Time for that 6 star easy map.

Take a look at these authentic Ouendan maps, everything from easy thru insane are all classified as "hard" according to the current star rating system.

Kei Imai - One Night Carnival (AR2 on easy, AR8 on insane)
L'Arc~en~Ciel - READY STEADY GO (AR1 on easy, AR9 on insane)
Kevin Ridel - The Anthem (AR0 on easy, AR7 on insane)
Kevin Ridel - Without a Fight (AR3 on easy, AR8 on insane)
Billy Fogarty - Jumpin' Jack Flash (AR0 on easy, AR8 on insane)
