Suggested Reform on the Post You in Real Life Thread

I think there should be a couple changes in the Post You in Real Life thread, since as we know it ended up being a big circlejerk, basically everyone would compliment everyone; you'd post your pic just to get and ego boost. I think that sort of thing has its place on Facebook, not on these forums. So I'd like to propose a few rules so the thread can serve a better purpose.

I'm not intending for these to be the final rules of that thread, but hopefully some rules can be discussed and worked out. Here are the ones that I've thought up of.

rules v1
1. No circlejerking. No compliments such as 'wow, sexy', that serve no purpose other than blowing smoke up someone's arse. You can comment something insightful about someone's appearance, or a specific aspect of their appearance, such as their hair if you want. But don't post for the sole purpose of making someone feel better about themselves, and don't post pics just to fish for compliments. Also, don't make it your job to comment on everyone's pics.

2. Criticism is allowed, since the purpose of the thread isn't just ego stroking. You're allowed to say something like 'orange hair doesn't suit you'. Like the above rule though, comments have to be constructive in some way; the purpose shouldn't just be to insult someone.

3. Stay on topic. If you want to talk about the thread itself, do so in another thread. No pointless bickering. You're allowed to have an on-topic debate (on something like, your hair colour for example), as long as it doesn't devolve into pointless name calling and flaming.

4. Make sure you identify yourself in the photo. If it has multiple people, point out which one is you. ;(I'd like to say that there could be an exception if you were to make a joke and post someone who obviously isn't you, but unfortunately most people don't seem mature enough to handle that)

5. Refrain from posting yourself too much. A rough rule is no more than once every ten pages. There can be exceptions if the picture you've posted is notable enough to post soon after your last one. For example, you travelled to France and got your pic taken in front of the Eiffel Tower.

Posts that don't confirm to these rules will be deleted, and offenders will get a PM explaining why their post was deleted. As for the moderating aspect, I think the best way would be to get someone specifically to moderate that thread. It doesn't really matter who it is, as long as they moderate solely based on the rules agreed upon.

This does sound like a really good idea, but I don't really think anyone would waste their time on creating these rules since the thread doesn't really have an important purpose.

No, its purpose is to post pics of yourself to fish for compliments.

More specifically to get a free ego boost that only reflects how pathetic you really are in real life when you resort to sucking dicks for virtual compliments. :p

Brilliant idea. Too bad it would have to be posted as the first reply on each new page so the wankers don't forget.

Lmfao, these two responses are gold.

yay, someone finally posted in the thread that I made. I think I was being a bit naive when I made it though, short of disallowing commenting on photos you're probably not going to stop people posting for attention (since that's just how people are). But having some rules to keep that behaviour to a minimum would be good, I think.

You do realize the people who frequent that thread rarely post outside of it, and probably won't even look at this thread right?

But does it really matter if the users frequenting on the thread look at this one? I mean, they can't make the change, they aren't moderators.

"I only made an account to post on this real life pic thread"

I took a look at the thead, and there are literally people whose only forum posts are pictures of themselves (or not).

While I don't actually partake in the thread so I probably don't have the right to a real say for reform, from what i've seen I'm going to say that it does need some new rules to tone down the circlejerking/dixsucking or at least get moved to Off-Topic.

It's practically a forum game anyways: post a picture of yourself and see how many people tickle your pickle over "how pretty you are"

god who the fuck gives a shit it's just posting selfies like if you guys are seriously getting mad over a thread then maybe you should go outside and get a fucking job instead of whining like a bitch while your mom brings you more cheetos like seriously.
