NPAPI support dropping in late 2015. For Chrome users

Been noticing that some plugins in Chrome weren't working, especially JavaScript at times. Did some research and kaboom:

Not being a developer myself (I barely even know coding), I'm wondering how this would affect osu! as a website and stuff.

I may be wrong, but I don't believe the osu! website uses any of these.

I've never seen chrome request use to allow them on the osu! site.

Currently Chrome supports NPAPI plugins, but they are blocked by default unless the user chooses to allow them for specific sites
It looks like you can still use it anyways.
In one of the java sites:

Enabling NPAPI in Chrome Version 42 and later
As of Chrome Version 42, an additional configuration step is required to continue using NPAPI plugins.

In your URL bar, enter:
chrome://flags/#enable-npapi
Click the Enable link for the Enable NPAPI configuration option.
Click the Relaunch button that now appears at the bottom of the configuration page.
Developers and System administrators looking for alternative ways to support users of Chrome should see this blog, in particular "Running Web Start applications outside of a browser" and "Additional Deployment Options" section.

Java is not the same as JavaScript. This shouldn't affect anything as far as I know. What plugins don't work from time to time?

In Chrome, JavaScript for the most part (was fixed in the settings, like Renevant said). But if osu! doesn't depend much on JavaScript plugins then I guess there isn't much to worry about. Mostly a heads up on what's happening for the osu! devs.
