This rule is very weird
A maximum of three slider velocities should be used (including 1x). For example, you could have a single map using 0.6x, 0.8x, and 1x; or 0.75x, 1x, and 1.5x; etc. If more than three slider velocities are used, then they should make sense and be intuitive. If slider velocity changes are able to be merged (e.g. close values like 0.8x and 0.7x) while still flowing/working correctly, then they should be.
In newer maps, this most of the time gets broken, so I see no need in keeping it.
Or you can completely rewrite it:
Do not use excessive SV changes in lower diffs. Things like 0.75 and 1.2 are generally accepted, but should still be avoided. This is because SV changes can be hard and unpredictable for beginners. For hard and above, it's fine, as long as they are not too mad, like 0.5-->2.0, unless it's the intention, for example on a dubstep map. There is no limit on how many different speeds you use, because you can use minor adjustments to have a small increase of speed, or major adjustments so the mao gets more tense
I know my wording isn't the best, but this needs to change, as it makes no sense at all nowadays
Mostly because previously unrankable SV's (under 0.5 and above 2.0 are rankable now)
If you have a more proper wording, post it, and I'll edit it

Was kind off pondering about this guideline when I was checking the wiki, good idea to bring this up to fix so that it can be further clarified

imo, guidelines are ones that the mapper should follow when they don't know what they are doing

Firstly, this is on a osu!mania's mapper perspective:

- This is too in-depth imo ( move the examples elsewhere ), and also slightly restrictive on how SVs can be used ( really think that mappers who don't follow examples are the ones who can show creativity/innovation in what they present )

Try to not have "restrictions", lines like this should be avoided since there may be mappers who intend to use higher speeds on low intensity sections ( for some reason, idk, but it's best to not have the wording that seem like it's restricting it )

Try to not have "slangs" here, " too mad "
Similarly, try to not have restrictions, " For hard and above "

Personally, on my perspective, any SV change on any difficulty can be either good or bad, won't be surprised if someone can pull off a good SV-ed easy piano genre map. ( note that i'm speaking in an osu!mania mapping perspective )

Lastly,
Do not use excessive SV changes in lower diffs.

This can be further simplified ( and emphasized ) to

Try to not use excessive SV changes in lower diffs. This is because SV changes can be unpredictable for beginners

Notes :

- Made it really simple for easy reading and understanding ( getting to the point )
- "hard and unpredictable" is simplified to "unpredictable" since "hard" falls in the "unpredictable" category
- Anything harder is known to be able to use excessive SV changes according to the guideline so I omitted that
- Examples, honestly, are really subjective ( and take up a big amount of space ), I would suggest moving them to the this section under the wiki for a more in depth explanation instead of having a big chunk on the ranking criteria

- Mine is rather simplified, won't be surprised if adding more words will make it sharper

yeah this is quite outdated.

i feel like it would apply for the lower diffs, i agree with ur second suggestion

Seems like discussions didn't really get anywhere here. Give me a poke with a proper wording and I will proceed to revive this.
