My girlfriend and I live together and she has kind of gained in interest in trying osu! out online. I mostly play online and we all know it's against the rules to have multiple accounts. So my question is: Would there be an issue if she creates an account and plays online on her laptop? I just don't want to see her account get locked/banned, because it is picked up that more than 1 account is logging in from the same IP address. It won't be a huge deal for her to just play offline if this isn't possible, but it would be nice if we could play some online matches together. Anyway, I just wanted to double check on this and see if you guys think this would be okay or if her account would end up getting flagged because the system thinks it's just another account of mine. Thanks all!

Send an e-mail to peppy's support hounds and they'll resolve it with you in no time.

Getting your account locked because of this wouldn't be unheard of. Be careful what you say too.

Create the account. Worst case scenario she plays offline for a few days before the support team sorts it out with you two. As Aurani mentioned, shoot accounts@ppy.sh an email if something goes wrong

Everyone knows that grills don't exist. My brother and I haven't gotten any problems despite using the same IP address, it should be fine.

Haha, that would be strange all around considering I suck and have never even broke the top 100 song and I'm considerably better than she is since she's only played a few times now. :P

Anyway, thanks for the help/advice guys, either she or I will shoot support a message about this. :)

Just because it's from the same router doesn't mean the laptops use the same IP. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that osu! also detects multiple accounts by logging which accounts have logged onto the same computer (not IP) also.

Yes, individual computers are assigned different LOCAL IP addresses, but your internet provider assigns a EXTERNAL/WAN IP address to your internet connection and all devices that are connected to that network go out over the same IP address. You were right, but wrong at the same time :P I would assume osu! only keeps track of the IP address assigned by the internet provider. It would be kind of unheard of them to keep track of your computer's local IP address.

This pretty much. Props on being at least slightly technically competent and getting this one completely right

As already stated before, send an e-mail to accounts@ppy.sh explaining the same thing you just did here and you guys should be fine to go.

Locking.
