How do you progress from 3 stars to 4 stars

Hi friends,

SO I hit my first brick wall this being 4 star songs. Now a little about my situation is I was flying by the ranks been playing Osu for about 4months on and off of course with maybe 1 month of play time (not in game just days that I have sat down and played osu.) As of April 09,2015 I am able to clear songs that are about 3.8 stars with little to no problems. But right once when the 4 stars maps come I just get destroyed.

Things I need to improve on
- Not to worry about what is coming next (yes this is an issue for me I think too much and end up hesitating)
- Need to learn how to stream (if anyone here has a good beat map to practice this pls post it below that is of course if it is allowed in the forum rules haven't read them yet don't tell anyone it will be our little secret.
- Need to learn how to tap faster on my keyboard.

Things that I think I have down
- Reaction time
- Jumping
- double and triple tapping
- accuracy

If you guys have any tips on how to approve my game pls post below it will really help me!

Not worrying about what's coming next isn't something we can help you with. It's a mental issue. I know as well as anyone that osu is srs business, but it's also just a game. Sure, you might have an awesome play right now, but you can always do it again, so chill.

-some good slow streaming maps. I learned basic streaming using these.

How exactly do you singletap? I hold my left hand in the air above my keyboard and lower it for each tap.

Also, make sure your skin isn't absolute trash totally not trying to get people to try mine

So I have a tablet already bought it once when I hit 800pp. The way I tap is keeping my fingers on w and e which are my keys to click. I never lift my hand above the keyboard. Also how do you know if your skin is complete trash? What makes a good skin?

Does your skin have invisible 300s? If not, it's probably automatically trash. It's not really a major problem tbh.

Try singletapping with your wrist, like I do, see if that improves your speed.

What makes a good skin?
Check Azerino or WWW skin, in my personal opinion, one of best skins. They are simple, without much graphic, clear circles, clear sliders, good cursor.
After changing my old skin (some trash d/l becouse of "graphic") i was able to play song what was earlier impossible to me due too many effects.

Agreed Azerino skin is a good starting point if you're lost and don't know what to try.

My skin that I have doesn't display 300s. And what do you mean by tap with your wrist? do I not rest my wrist on my table and basically move my wrist up and down to tab? Also, I have always alternated my keys to tab. I don't have a dominate key.

When I'm playing I rest my elbow on my chair's arm, hold my hand above my tapping keys and lower it whenever I need to tap. If that's not good enough, tell me, and I'll make a quick video or something to show what I mean.

Alternating seems like a nice habit to have, help with streaming.

So is there a reason to hold your hand above the keys? I saw some of the higher end players do that on their stream to. But I just feel like that is a bad way to play because there is a time when you have to move your fingers down to the key to press it. Is resting your hand on the keys slower? I'll give it a try and see what happens :)

Just give it a shot. I need to do that to singletap high BPM, and it feels more natural for me. It also feels a lot more accurate IMHO.

You're good. Even I don't have any of those down.
Btw... My fingers are always in contact with the keyboard (most of the time at least). Play what's comfortable for you and play some more. If you can't beat a map, move on to the next and come again to it later.

Forgot this. Don't force yourself to play how I described if you don't like it. It was just a suggestion.

Playing with Aero is comfy for me but that doesn't mean it's good.

Yeah, I started playing with using 2 keys because It just felt easier for me. The issue that I have I think is when I alternate constantly nothing is consistent. So I might be pressing more buttons in order to just do 3 clicks

pff,I don't use my wrist and I singletap 270 bpm easily

on topic:if you really want to stream then start from low bpm and work your way up,that's the best way to do it.......unless you are me

I know you problably hear this alot from just about anyone in the osu community, but practice is the ultimate factor. The more you play the better you get. And the more ranks you pass the longer and harder it will take to pass even more ranks. Just look at the top 10 players, they have been playing for 2-6 years and have hundreds of thousands of plays. Hope that helps. B)

Play jumpy TAG4 maps & streamy maps with HT alot.
Then instant 3-star to 4-star.

This is the trick I used to get better at osu, I am doing 5 star maps after 3 months of playing with a one month break in between. Just a warning this is how I progressed therefore it doesn't mean it's for everyone.

When ever I hit a wall I just play even harder songs. Of course you'll fail 99.99% of the time but if you play a few of the harder maps a few times a day you'll get better at reading higher ARs. Even if you can only hit 10 notes at first, after awhile you'll be able to get maybe 10% of the song done, then when you go back to playing 4 stars you'll find it slightly easier.

Other than that like other people said just play more.

You should probably aim to fc 4.0-4.5 instead of playing 5.0+

I keep playing 3stars, and then slowly progress, 3.2, 3.4, 3.6 ...... and so on. And now i'm at 4+ stars :D
The point is, just play more, takes time though. Lots of times :v
