I am able to do most, if not all of muzukashi maps and some of oni. Do i play oni maps that are hard for me which i have a chance to fail or do i play oni that i can pass but not able to FC, or muzukashi in HR/DT. Also how do i determine how hard a taiko map is? Like in CTB we look at AR etc.

Play maps that you can almost FC (less than 10 misses) and maps you can FC with 95%+ accuracy, in a few months time you'll be going back to old maps you did and ask yourself "This is easy, how did I not FC/SS this before?", that's what I did and currently still doing to improve. You'll naturally pick up patterns along the way. Accuracy is also a practice thing and it'll improve the more you play.

It'll also help if you don't play converts and stick to playing Taiko diffs only, though converts can help you get used to high/low SV.

As for determining how hard Taiko maps are, I look at OD, AR and Star Difficulty.

How I got good really fast was just playing stuff that was slightly beyond my level all the time. The accuracy comes with time anyway, so I wouldn't aim for perfecting songs unless you really feel like doing it.

You'll get good faster just playing harder and harder stuff each day and try to aim for a "B" to pass it. Then move on to something harder and so on.

I think once you can pass almost every oni song (not inner/ura), then move on to getting your accuracy improved on easier songs and you will find it to be VERY easy now.

I would also abuse the HR/DT mods if you need practice with speed/accuracy respectively.

I started playing Onis 3 days ago and I'm trying to manage to get 85%+ for a B and a pass. Still, I'm playing on low BPM to be able to coordinate hands and practice patterns (I switched to full alternate style recently). Imho, the practice makes perfection, so just play and play and eventually you'll get better. I know it's easy to say, but it's the truth <.<
