try to uninstall your avast first?

Doesn't avast have some sort of whitelist? Add osu to the list?

In Avast you got 2 type's off whitelists.
Add the whole folder under Settings > Active Protection > File System Shield > Custumize > Exclusions
Add the ".exe's" under Settings > Active Protection > Web Shield > Exclusions > Processes to exclude section
I also included "http://https://osu.ppy.sh/*" for the "URls to exclude"

I've seen quite a few people with this problem and the solution is usually to whitelist it.

Weird. I'm a long-time avast! user (even now) and I have no problem playing osu! here. I never tweaked around with its whitelist settings either...

Newer install version has different default settings than upgrading it constantly which keeps most your settings :)
It's also a good idea if you want to do a clean Avast install to Back-up you settings and restore it afterwards.

This has nothing to do with avast. Use the new osu! isntaller, not the old one.

Thanks for the help

Actually, I'm playing osu since October or something, and I only had the problem today. Quite strange
