I recently noticed that lots of the high ranking osu!mania players (not sure about osu) are actually quite low lvl'd? Whats up with that, is that from past experience playing stepmania or creating alt accounts to practice on? any enlightenment would be appreciated :D :D :D

theyre all pro players from other well established games that follow the same game design but are much older and difficult so the players from there are far better than any mania-only people

beatmania for example

Typically they dont stay long, when they go back to their main games and find themselves doing worse because theyve been playing mania which has horrendous mechanics that encourage lazy play, or they realize that all but 2-3 maps are too easy for their level of play, imperishable night is cool but its not enough to keep people playing a game where 99.9% of the maps arent even worth their time.

you also have to remember that level is based on total score. and since mania players can only get 1 mill max per level. it'll obviously take a while to level up :p

But Riince's point is kinda true.. osu!mania songs are nothing compared to let's say Stepmania songs..

Mechanics like what?

The lack of challenging maps, sure. o!m is an introduction in vsrg to very few people, so literally everyone has sm/iidx/o2jammu backgrounds.

the game doesnt punish hitting when there's no notes which is a big one.
makes it possible to essentially 'bullshit' your way through certain parts that you cant properly do with little punishment

You can literally spam the shit out of chart you couldn't possibly pass in other games and get ~600-700k score

I think prior musical experience, particularly in piano playing, might also be a factor (why they're so skilled despite having few plays or level or w/e)

unlike osu!, which requires the player to learn how to use the mouse/tablet effectively, piano players don't need to relearn how to tap keys for osu!mania, and already have fantastic finger dexterity and hand/eye coordination. so the speed they climb the rates is a step up from ordinary people.

Playing piano doesn't fucking help with playing osu!mania like that's like saying that playing guitar makes you good at guitar hero

I'm not sure what I was trying to argue with that one. Sorry for the brain damage CDFA.

Playing piano would help a little bit with finger independence. But the main difficulty is learning to read the keys.

To be honest, o!m helped me more on my piano playing as my hands move independently from each other now which allowed me to actually play set pieces.

or maybe you actually practiced that might be a thing too
