CTB Star Ratings Changes?

I was looking at some of my ranking in CtB, and as of today (12/6/14), the star ratings have gone down in number significantly. Example: https://osu.ppy.sh/b/299436&m=2 Zutto's Salad used to be a 4.52 star, and according to the page, it still is, but in game, it displays as a 1.55 star. While this isn't inherently an issue, the satisfaction of playing 5-star songs is something that keeps me playing CtB, and I'd appreciate knowing if this is a permanent change or just a bug.

You are probably using Cutting-Edge updates.

They did some changes to the difficulty calculation algorithm (and possibly they are going to do some other changes to improve it).

The current web star difficulties seem to be inflated compared to other modes. In the other game modes usually it takes months of practice to play 4.5 star maps, while that CTB difficulty (Zutto's Salad) is something a beginner could get a S on.

Oh, okay. As long as it's not a glitch for me in particular, then I'm fine with that. It still seems a bit weird that I can be top 10k and doing 2 star songs, but the balancing makes sense overall. Thank you. :D

Salad is equal to a Normal difficulty in standard, don't pay attention to the star rating, is not accurate yet.

Well some of my thought : Cup can equal from 0 to 2.5 stars in ssoard, Sallad from 2 to 3.5 stars, Platter from 3.75 to 4.5 stars, Rain from 4.80 to 6 stars, Overdose&+ from 6 to tag4 maps in std

So ctb is easy at begining but after some levels it becomes harder to learn and beat it.

So basically 2.5 is still Cup but at the same time its Salad as well?
There is nothing between 3.5 and 3.75.
Same at 4.5 and 4.8.

Also, this is a false information since Rain's are rarely reach 5.5+. There are some maps like CLSW where the SR is high but usually 5.5+ is Overdose.

Anyway, you should only watch the name of the difficulty. The star rating is still under development and although its kinda accurate now I still can say cases where it is too low or too high. And also, if you go back to Stable, the star rating will remain the old one since the new is not public yet.

well my comparison was related to standard difficulty levels or rather how hard it feels as the star rating in standard ... and it was just my thoughts and guesses about how to describe the difficulty of ctb using std star rating since its the most played ... well whatever

Star rating is working differently for CtB since distance snap is not used to map them. A small jump (around 2.0x) in CtB is a high one in Standard.

If I really want to say a difficulty spread it should be:

Under 2.0 = Cup
2.0 to 3.0 = Salad
3.0 to 4.0 = Platter
4.0 to 5.0 (5.5) = Rain
5.5+ = Overdose/Deluge

This is really differentiate between mappers but more or less accurate.

Once the new star rating is out on stable, I plan to do some posts about it with some statistics, I have everything set up.

aaaaaaaand the new star rating is applied

No rants, just mark this as resolved

Okay.. so now even overdose diff stars reduced to 4-5 stars
my question is how are we going to increase our PP if the diff stars are that low? (i mean people who already has high points)
or is there going to be an update to CtB pp system too?
Kurokami
You get pp depends on how jumpy the map is and how tricky the jumps are. It has nothing to do with the star rating anymore. If you play Overdoses you will get the same amount of pp as til now.
