Thing is, I'm not hyped out about the game, since I'm also one of those saying that it's just a remake with better graphics, which is why I never really respected Blizzard (Although I do respect them for one thing, and that's their use of p2p for update distribution, which valve fails at during major releases).

They have their 3 main franchises and all they do is make sequels. I personally am the type of person who rather have a 1hour fun game than a boring 10hour game (read: Portal).

But thing here is:
big community + great mapping/modding engine = Amazing mini-games.
Which is exactly what I described above (short enjoyable games rather than long boring ones).

Wc3 was known for all it's great custom games, and mainly DotA, RPG games and TD games, but now with SC2, they finally realized this and worked hard on making a new modding system that gives way more power in the hand of the community, almost making the game opensource.

Also, I'm quite certain that sc2 will have a far bigger community.
WHOA WHOA WHOA! Wait till you play before you even judge the game. Its is NOT SC1 with better graphics.

SC2 has a COMPLETELY different feel than SC1. Mechanics of the game are COMPLETELY different! Macro in SC1 was pretty much minimized, and the only optimization came with timing expansions and such. In SC2, each race has a way to boost their macro (Terran MULE, Zerg Qeen, Protoss Chrono Boost). This changes SO MUCH. Sets up all kinda of timing pushes, builds, etc etc. Microing, as always, is just as important. With all the new things such as units who can jump cliffs and such combat is much more intense and may I saw harder. SC1 I was B- rank on Teamliquid (rofl don't laugh at me), SC2... its so different I'm so terrible now and still getting used it to.

tl;dr: Don't judge a game before you even get to play it, it's stupid. Spectate =/= game.

Yes. Problem?
Neo@lex
It's a remake of Starcraft with minor modifications.
Blizzard said so themselves. Don't bother them about it.

From experience, what you are talking about here is very relative. Pretty much any game that has been coming out in the past 5 years has been an example of this to me. MW2 for example. so many people seem enjoy it and say that it has a different feeling , but to me, every fps shooter game from cs1.6 to mw2 has beenl the same and failed to entertain me (The only reason I played 1.6 or source was because of the mods, which mw2 doesn't even have).

tl;dr: Don't judge my judgement with your way of seeing games.

Well point is, I can:
1. See how well the game runs on my computer (they srsly should've put a benchmark atleast :(! )
2. I can see it at my 2048x1152 with everything on ultra instead of youtube quality (even if its 720p)

EDIT: nvm~
Needs more AA though :<

I can run it smoothly with everything on ultra except texture which is at high ( vram is low : )
Replays are pretty sick, because you can get a feel with the cameras and hotkeys and everything.
Here's a huge pack of ~100 replays

SC2 seems to aim to increase the micromanagement of starcraft exponentially. In SC it's what gave you that competetive edge, in SC2 some of the moves(the the protoss units that can block pathways for example) you NEED to execute well.

To be honest though SC1 competitive play just sort of happened, and none of the developers really intended to make a game as deep as they did.
Topic Starter
Ph0X
And that's the exact reason why it was so amazing.
When something happens without it being intended, it usually is way more succesful than when developers try forcing it.

An example of this would be counter-strike.
A less known example would be surfing in cs1.6. People would do crazy tricks on pretty much every surf map, but as soon as a mapper tried thinking about the tricks and mapping accordingly, that map would turn to shit.

Tbh, the whole thing that makes it fun is the challenge for me, and if you make it all easy and simple to macro, then to some extent, you've killed it for the pro league and all you're doing is bringing a bunch of noobs in the competition, just like cs:s.
lukewarmholiday
A valid point and only time will tell the outcome.

But this IS blizzard. Despite how much I hate their business practice(but everything they've done to date is just good business so I cant really complain) they know what makes games good.

What I'm personally worried about is D3 but then some of the shit they are working on in D3 is just so amazing I can't help but keep a little hype.

Blizzard and Valve are the only two professional game developers that I can constantly expect a certain level of quality from.

Literally, the only two.

In hindsight, I think submitting my beta report with 4gb of remaining space left on my OS partition was a bit silly.

It's completely random, they didn't put any thought into the selection system other than it tries to select a variety of system specs.

People have brought these questions up.

Not sure if this is what you mean, but the game is 1.6gb download and 2.1gb installed.
But if you do get an invite and don't want it..... :)
Two_old
I didn't get an inviteee :(
Nachy
First off, no, you can't play on battle.net.

Secondly, no, you can't play with LAN because there is no LAN in Starcraft 2 (nor in the beta).

Thirdly, no you can't play the campaign (it's not in the beta).

But you CAN play custom maps against Starcraft 2's AI, using any of the races.

Eh that's not very interesting...

But isn't it better than not playing at all?

There are two things you need in order to play Starcraft 2.

The first is a copy of the beta.

The second is the maps and the AI.

Now that I've downloaded everything, how do I play?

1. Install the beta. It will install two patches after it installs the game itself. There's no point clicking the "Play" button afterward, all you'll get is a login screen for battle.net.

2. Extract the "Starcraft II Beta Goodies" archive. Inside the Things folder are two folders: Maps and Mods. There's also an .exe called lazylaunch. Keep the Maps folder somewhere you'll remember it. Note: lazylaunch has been reported to come up on some anti-virus software as false positives, simply ignore this.

3. Now, many people have complained that it's super super easy, so we have a difficulty mod to patch this. I have not tried playing without the mod, perhaps you'd like to play without it before you play with it enabled. If so, skip this step and come back to it later. Go to your Starcraft 2 Beta folder, and put the "Mods" folder in there. It will ask you if you want to overwrite files and merge folders. Say yes to all prompts.

4. Run the lazylaunch application. Point it towards the map you'd like to play on, and the game should start up. Your race will be random, as well as the enemy's races (I believe).
yeahyeahyeahhh
Custom maps?

There are custom maps already?

nonsense!
DawnII
It is super easy.

This is all the computer could come up with after 20 minutes. You can download maps from http://www.nibbits.com/sc2/maps/

oh you meanie for the ai's and stuff. I thought you meant actually new maps and such. Cause those already come with SC

The only AI they cracked was easy and very easy lol. Apparenly they got hard AI working.

Yeah, here's some of the updated shit, with a bunch to choose from.

kind of cute how the maps can hold AI levels, Must be from the world editor and shit for campaign maps.
DawnII
I just tested that v4 hard AI. Pretty decent, I may have been in trouble had I not rushed with four zealots in the beginning. By the time I had mounted my final attack, comp had maybe 12 marines and a few marauders. Didn't stand a chance against my zealots + sentry shield. Ahhh terran don't stand a chance against toss anymore :)

Also, with my first rush I wiped out the AI's marines. The AI actually knew to take the SCVs and swarm my zealots. I'd say this AI mod is worth using.

Also LazyLaunch2 came out:
--[ 2.0 ]----------------------------------------------------------------------
Now independent from StarCraft II version, will automatically launch the
latest version of the game.
Added support to launch replays and saves.
Fixed unicode handling of file path.
Command-line arguments support for advanced usage.

Also, here's a slightly modified ai crack which gives the bots extra minerals (if the other one was too easy)

- Multiple opens for each race.
- Zerg and Terran opens have been re-written.
- AI has a delay before he scouts.
- AI should attack in larger waves and more often.
- Lots of balancing and tweaking!

That wasn't a tight wall-in. You didn't need the sunken the depot because there is a grid any 1 box unit can fit through.

I know it wasn't a tight wall-in because I was leaving room for the tech lab, but since I didn't need it I just went with a third barracks and tech lab instead.

Come on now, I'm no amateur.

Fuuuu serious toss nerfs in the new patch. Chrono boost only lasts 20 seconds now shiiiit.
