Map Download Speeds

Having some issues with map downloads recently and i was interested to see if anyone else was having the same problem.

I find it quite bizarre that when i download Beatmaps lately that it takes me 2-3 minutes to download a 10mb file. My internet speed is at 8 mbps which is equivalent to one Mb a second. so really it should only take me ten seconds to download a file which brings me to my hypothesis.

Is it the site's server that is bottlenecking my dl speed or does anyone have an other suggestions on how i may troubleshoot?

I can stream in HD, buffer videos fine and even play online games while my little sister streams movies so i have come to this conclusion

It could be a number of things.

Online games take up hardly any bandwidth; this is due to most of the information that is being sent from the game client to the game server being mostly numbers and stuff. Streaming movies, on the other hand, takes up tons of bandwidth because actual data is being sent across the network to the client computer.

It could be your route to the server where beatmaps are stored being bottlenecked at some point along the way (a VPN can help alleviate this by rerouting your traffic to arrive at the server through a different path; I personally use StrongVPN).

I have personally been having issues with my latency recently due to the rampage of DDoS attacks that have cropped up over the past few days, so your issue could be related to mine as well (although if you're from Australia, I'm not sure how much this would affect you).

I can't imagine it being the beatmap server though, as I haven't experienced that degree of slowdown on my beatmap downloads lately.

Is this happening for ranked maps or just unranked maps?

Ranked maps, this makes it difficult when playing multiplayer.

last night though about 3 hours after i posted this thread i did download another map and this time 18mb in last then half a minute. im not sure why it keeps alternating.
