Can't Find A Good Pen Grip

I recently got a tablet (Wacom Bamboo Capture) and I'm having a really hard time trying to find a good way to hold my pen. I know it is completely up to personal preference so I am really just asking for how you hold your pen and seeing if I feel comfortable holding it that way. Before this I was trying to hold it like I would a pencil but I either couldn't reach the top left of the screen or the bottom right. And if it matters I am full screen 1920x1080 (Native) and my active area on my tablet it almost the smallest.

And by the way, I checked other forums on this topic and couldn't find any that I was pleased with.

My only advice to you is to use the pen in the way that feels most natural.

I've tested multiple grips, having looked up many good players' grips as well, shunning my own writing grip as inferior many times. I've even told people in the past that they didn't need to use the same grip as what they write with. While that may apply in some cases, it's not always the case.

I seem to have made do with other grips moderately fine, but always felt like I hit a wall when it came to reaching for notes.

The grip I'm using right now after all else fails? My writing grip. Mere weeks after changing to it, after having gone through all that, I could feel that my potential for aim and consistency is much higher than before. It was just a matter of sticking it out.

I hold it like this;
active area is about 75%
screen @ 1920x1080
game @ 1440x900 windowed

My advice?
Start with something you're comfortable with and gradually modify it until you're both comfortable and flexible. Then just stick with it.

Since you're also fairly new to the game just keep playing.
It's hard to know what's the best for you without much experience.

Experiment, decide, and persist

Thanks for the replies so far, I've been messing with more pen positions and are starting to find ones that are decent. I also am looking at the active area but I probably won't change that.

And, if it helps, I am pretty new, like hellopppp said, I just started playing some 4 star songs.

Currently I hold it like a chopstick, and hold the pen near the middle, may change it a bit later (only been using a tablet for a week)

a problem I've been having though- since I play osu! a heap, when I started using a tablet, I would get an pen indentation in my middle finger in-between the nail and first joint. And now that my finger has healed, there's a smooth lump in that spot, which makes it much more prone for the pen to slip out of position.

currently I play osu! full-screen and a medium active area. I'd advise not to have the tablet area too ridiculously small, it's probably akin to playing at like 7000dpi with the mouse.

My advice is pretty much the same as RaneFire's. I went through the same thing trying to find a grip that worked for me.
I really dislike my writing grip too because it's so unnatural compared to the common writing grip of others, but it seems to work best for me after much experimentation with trying to change it.

And im 1 year old here, almost the same time with tablet S:

If you're using a really small tablet area then I'd probably suggest holding the pen closer to the point and holding it in whatever way feels most comfortable which will probably be the same way you hold a pencil while writing. It takes some getting used to. I don't suggest switching your grip too much. I've been using a tablet for several months now and I still have issues with my grip because I keep adjusting it. No matter what way I hold it, it feels uncomfortable and makes me believe it screws my aim up whenit probably doesn't. So don't change your adjustments too often!

I like all of the suggestions, I am still picking out grips, although I am using my writing grip while playing, which is what I might just use and change it later if it ever becomes a problem. I will try some of the new post ideas and hopefully make more progre

And I am starting to do some insane maps with a lot bigger and faster jumps, so far most positions I do don't help me do jumps but I can do tight maneuvers pretty well, but maybe I just need practice.

Also, anyone like my profile picture? :)

Sorry for any grammatical errors I did this in a weird order and It's 2:30 so I should be going to bed.
