I can finally put my 8 year old Switch 1 to rest.

(Any Switch 2 owners post your experience and some game recommendations!)

Don't have a switch 2 at the moment (no intention of getting one anytime soon) but as it stands there isn't really much "exclusive" games on the console as far as I know outside of mario kart world if you're willing to cough up $80 for it assuming you didn't buy the bundle, Heard its pretty fun though probably not the price unless you're maybe a big fan of the series.

I know there's the upcoming donkey kong game, splatoon spin off game (I'm personally most interested in at the moment) to look forward to as well. Kinda hard to recommend games given how early we are in the console's lifespan, also don't have the console partly because of that but I figure still I'd share my viewpoint.

That's what I was expecting tbh. I will probably get the new donkey kong, splatoon raiders, and rhythm heaven though.

I do think it's weird that Mario Kart World is 80$ though because every other game that I've seen (outside of the updated totk bundle) is 70$

Good luck getting anything in physical. You've essentially gotten yourself a rented license that will be revoked sometime down the line.

I'd rather an OG Switch than a Switch 2 (despite Nintendo being run by a business-savvy moron now).

Not really. Nintendo definitely will do stupid things, but one thing that they've always done is allow game re-downloads even after the stores shutdown.

Now, do I think the key cards are a good thing? NO. NOT EVEN A LITTLE BIT. Though, does that mean that the whole physical library is gonna be key cards? No. If they can fit Cyberpunk 2077 onto a regular card, then they can fit anything.

I do understand the hate a little, but whether anyone likes it or not, they will force us to upgrade, so it's better to do it sooner then later.

(The only part I don't get is the fact that people are so caught up with the whole bricking thing because they have done that since the Wii days.)

EDIT: Also wanted to add, the key cards have been selling really poorly. So they may end up discontinuing them sooner than later.

tbh i'm surprised you still buy phisical, most people that I know only buy in digital, personally I think it's just the superior distribution method, cheaper, more accessible, and greater variety, the indie scene would have never flourished until digital (in fact it's one of the reasons why it wasn't a big force until the 2010's!). It's true that it's not true ownership, but so far mayor platforms like steam and others have yet to really give us a big scare, it's true that there is the drama with the crew, but I wouldn't consider uplay a mayor platform. Also, again, if the companies do decide to fuck us over, we shouldn't just sit down and take it, just download a pirate version of it, consoles can also be jailbroken you know

I do somewhat agree here, it's just the game key cards (physical cards with a digital download on them) that make me mad.

I do prefer physical because of the handful of benefits you get from buying them that way though. (Mainly getting them for cheaper, and being able to resell them.)

Yeah, I think it's nice to buy physical games whenever you can, Having full ownership really does go a long way. Both of course having their pros and cons with digital having a lot more accessibility and convenience but way more prone to becoming lost media in a lot of cases where that's less likely with physical where there's full ownership and can be preserved a lot better through emulation should distribution be discontinued/becomes abandonware with it's con being general wear and tear (experienced it first hand, having to constantly remove and insert disc/cartridges multiple times until the console reads it due to debris and scratches) and worst case it being destroyed.

Keycards suck because they have the cons of both physical and digital essentially cancelling all the positives.

Exactly!

for the record, I think game cards are a step back, having DRM over no DRM is just inferior, havign said that

"more prone to becoming lost media" no, this hasn't been the case for the longest time, only things that do "become lost media" are shovelware, and shovelware doesn't get physical releases noawdays

also, the way things are conserved nowadays is that they're dumped into a computer, because as you say, physical media breaks
Ymir
Neigdoig there is no reason to be this negative.
Physical media is nice, but for all the reasons listed by Pata (he's right you know), I wouldn't let that be the benchmark for if I buy a console. I'd let it be a contributing factor in buying on console over another, sure, but that's one point out of several different points available. Biggest issue I can see with the Switch is the price. $800AUD is crazy.

On the topic of physical, I've personally decided that buying physical for new consoles is almost pointless; a lot of games seem to download day1 patches or just the game entirely, only using the disc as a license. Chose the PS5 Digital for this exact reason (though I can add an official disc drive later on if I want).

At least with 1st party Nintendo games they've been on the card so far

I'm only gonna get a switch 2 once they release Splatoon 4. They tempted me with the announcement of a spin-off game but I cannot bare to spend that much money for that at the moment 😭🙏

There's a new rhythm heaven fever game coming?

That's the trap. Switch 2 games (same with the latest Xbox and PS5 games) will have a physical release, but that physical medium is tied to a digital copy. Think of it as a key to a DRM'd nightmare that, as I said, is a rented license that can (and will) be revoked at any one time. Not to mention, while I do buy games from steam, at least I get to keep the license to said game should it ever go down.

You're not wrong here, but I'm going to be honest, they don't have the balls to do so.
They'll try taking a game away, and either someone would sue them to oblivion, or they would lose a ton of costumers. (Or both.)

A good example is ubisoft, as they basically sent their reputation 6 feet under by taking away one game.

The main thing to note though is that the key cards are selling way worse than regular carts to a point where some publishers are selling both key cards and regular carts.
