I can finally put my 8 year old Switch 1 to rest.

Not really. Nintendo definitely will do stupid things, but one thing that they've always done is allow game re-downloads even after the stores shutdown.Neigdoig wrote:
Good luck getting anything in physical. You've essentially gotten yourself a rented license that will be revoked sometime down the line.
I'd rather an OG Switch than a Switch 2 (despite Nintendo being run by a business-savvy moron now).
tbh i'm surprised you still buy phisical, most people that I know only buy in digital, personally I think it's just the superior distribution method, cheaper, more accessible, and greater variety, the indie scene would have never flourished until digital (in fact it's one of the reasons why it wasn't a big force until the 2010's!). It's true that it's not true ownership, but so far mayor platforms like steam and others have yet to really give us a big scare, it's true that there is the drama with the crew, but I wouldn't consider uplay a mayor platform. Also, again, if the companies do decide to fuck us over, we shouldn't just sit down and take it, just download a pirate version of it, consoles can also be jailbroken you knowNeigdoig wrote:

I do somewhat agree here, it's just the game key cards (physical cards with a digital download on them) that make me mad.Patatitta wrote:

Exactly!CatzerTM wrote:
Yeah, I think it's nice to buy physical games whenever you can, Having full ownership really does go a long way. Both of course having their pros and cons with digital having a lot more accessibility and convenience but way more prone to becoming lost media in a lot of cases where that's less likely with physical where there's full ownership and can be preserved a lot better through emulation should distribution be discontinued/becomes abandonware with it's con being general wear and tear (experienced it first hand, having to constantly remove and insert disc/cartridges multiple times until the console reads it due to debris and scratches) and worst case it being destroyed.

Keycards suck because they have the cons of both physical and digital essentially cancelling all the positives.

EDIT: Also wanted to add, the key cards have been selling really poorly. So they may end up discontinuing them sooner than later.
for the record, I think game cards are a step back, having DRM over no DRM is just inferior, havign said thatCatzerTM wrote:

At least with 1st party Nintendo games they've been on the card so farYmir wrote:
Neigdoig there is no reason to be this negative.
Physical media is nice, but for all the reasons listed by Pata (he's right you know), I wouldn't let that be the benchmark for if I buy a console. I'd let it be a contributing factor in buying on console over another, sure, but that's one point out of several different points available. Biggest issue I can see with the Switch is the price. $800AUD is crazy.
On the topic of physical, I've personally decided that buying physical for new consoles is almost pointless; a lot of games seem to download day1 patches or just the game entirely, only using the disc as a license. Chose the PS5 Digital for this exact reason (though I can add an official disc drive later on if I want).
There's a new rhythm heaven fever game coming?npc_BeaniCraft wrote:
That's what I was expecting tbh. I will probably get the new donkey kong, splatoon raiders, and rhythm heaven though.

That's the trap. Switch 2 games (same with the latest Xbox and PS5 games) will have a physical release, but that physical medium is tied to a digital copy. Think of it as a key to a DRM'd nightmare that, as I said, is a rented license that can (and will) be revoked at any one time. Not to mention, while I do buy games from steam, at least I get to keep the license to said game should it ever go down.npc_BeaniCraft wrote:

You're not wrong here, but I'm going to be honest, they don't have the balls to do so.Neigdoig wrote:
