A friends section on the website can be a form of ease of access so I think it will be better, because you would not need to have Osu! open in order to see whether your friends are online or not. If you want to view a friends profile, you can just click it on the website to display it. But if you are on Osu!, you have to wait for your browser to pop up in order to view a profile.
