Just curious if there are some things that people didn't know about Osu until a couple months into playing.

For me mine was I didn't know that there was a thing to make the 100 hitframe smaller, I thought that was a set thing for every map.

I didn't know that the edit mode in osu allowed you to practice certain sections of songs

I still neglect to use it whenever I'm stuck on a song

I bet many don't know you can search for specific BPMs and and difficulty stats in the search using <abbreviated name><>=<value>
Justin Cretible
I didn't know you could enable the hit error meter in the options menu until 2 weeks ago. It really helped me understand if I'm going too fast/slow on streams.

I really only use it to see the rhythm of the beats if I can't get it. saving as a new difficulty for the part you're having trouble with is better

I bet many don't know that they can refresh their skins by pressing Ctrl + Alt + Shift + S.

How OD works

You need to push your limits to improve, I spent way too long S'ing hards/insanes which weren't difficult for me and it was ultimately a waste of time and I barely got better by doing it, if I had spent that time playing hard insanes or DT'ing hards I would be in a better spot now without a doubt

I didn't use a transparent skin for a long time, it helps

I heard that od influences the spinners in some way a few days ago. Also, I didn't know that you can turn off the dots/line conecting the circles in a combo and I have no idea what that "snaking slider" or whatever does.

Why would you ever want to though? Followpoints are insanely useful for any kind of jumping, and if yours are too obstructive you can just edit them.

For some they are just extra clutter on the screen. Metro doesn't play with them on and I think he even advocates to turn them off. I like them, but others have different preferences.

I didn't know for a long time you could upload the screenshot as well with Shift + F12
Astar
I didn't know what does AR, OD, BPM or FC mean and what they do until I got into top 500. I just played ignoring those things. ;;

I didn't know you could scroll the song list with right click instead of having to roll and roll with mouse or flip a billion times with the pen when I want to find a map.

This one is amazing... With this I won't need to close Osu!

Oh god, I remember the first time I discovered this. I already had thousands of beatmaps by that time ;_;
Gigo
I didn't know (even though it says it on the top left corner) that when you fail a song, you can press F1 to see the replay.

Holy shit, thank you!

For a while I thought nightcore meant 4x speed, I also didn't know I could click tab to hide the score board
Yellyfish
Didn't know how to type a text link in chat for the last two years until someone told me how to do it.

Ctrl+Shift+Scroll Adjusts the volume in menus where you otherwise couldn't.
Alt+Scroll Adjusts the effect volume.

Some useful stuff which took me a while to learn about.

Edit: 10 seconds ahead ^^
Lanturn
You can change the volume in game anywhere by holding control+shift and scrolling the mousewheel, and adding alt for effect volume.

I knew about using the wheel and holding alt, just not holding control+shift to do it in places you normally couldn't like song select :P

Agreed. I've found about 2-3 more things from this I still hadn't known of yet.

I didn't know that you can choose what part of skin you want to use. I always thought it was pre-set and all we can do is obey the skin maker.

Off Topic : I wonder what's on peppy's mind after he read this thread.(will it be like "oh my god, how could all of you don't know about that?")
Jing Yuan
I didn't know what ar, od, acc, and many other abbreviations until like rank 30k.
Clyine
I didn't know i can play with z/x for the first 2 months.

All I did was go to the main menu. I don't know about you guys, but going to the main menu refreshes the skin for me.

Well, not etactly somethink i didnt know while i should, but its a good tip either way:

You can use the editor to adjust the difficulty of a song, ie, song x is just slightly out of your skill level, and you keep failing because life drain (meaning your 100s wont keep up) but you're otherwise doing fine, edit that specific value down a bit (Just 1 or 2 points!), use that till you got comfortable on that song and then restore the difficulty.
I find this helpfull for practicising.

anyone know that in beatmap select if the song is pink that means it's unplayed?
also you can download a replay once you're on the replay statistics screen and press f2

this

use edit mode to play a map

I didn't give a damn about song info (AR and OD) when I've started from 2009 until now, but I still ignore them and play lol

This thread is already amazing. (I learned about new shortcuts!)

I surprisingly didn't know you could change keybinds until like January, so I was shifting my keyboard to do z/x every time I played (I'm a lefty tablet user)
Espionage724
I think the first month or so that I played osu!, I had no idea you could use keyboard keys. Was a mouse-only player at the time.

Had a friend who was the same way; he was using his touchpad buttons with a tablet.

As for something a bit more unknown, in the osu!username.cfg file, Display = # controls which display osu! starts on. Useful for fullscreen players with multiple monitors positioned in a non-expected way (osu! would start on my far-right monitor in a triple-screen setup by default).
BlackMidKnight
4 years ago, I still had no idea about using keyboard binding on left and right mouse click and this is the reason why I quit osu a few months later. :o
Now, other shortcuts/binding like F2=random map selection; Q,W,E,A,S,D,F etc = mods; Ctrl+1,2,3 or 4 correspond to modes and a lot more... :D

In other words, it's all about key bindings :D

I've been trying to figure this out, thanks.
