After many months of preparation we are very excited to be able to announce the second iteration of Beginner Fruit Frenzy! Beginner Fruit Frenzy is an international osu!catch, 2v2 double-elimination team tournament with a team size of 2-3 players. It's made for up and coming fruit catchers at beginner or early intermediate level of rank #3 000 - 10 000.
The "catch" is that this tournament will truly be a frenzy as the difficulty will be stepped up from your usual beginner tourney. Instead we will be pushing players to challenge themselves with maps beyond what they are expected to easily do well at. You could call the Fruit Frenzy a Challenge Cup for newer players!
For reference, the mappools are expected to begin at a around 3.5* NM1 in RO32 and scale up to 5.5* NM1 by the very end. If that sounds daunting, don't forget that this tournament's goal is to push you beyond your limits and the others are in the same boat as you! Improvement is right around the corner at this range and we want to provide a fitting environment for the growth of new players.

- Players must be within the rank range of # 3000 - 10 000 upon registration.
- Players have to stay within rank range until the end of registrations. After that there is no rank limit to keep in mind.
- Players must join the BFF discord server throughout the duration of the tournament. Players must also use their osu! Username on the server. Use the WyBin verification process for that.
- For rescheduling any match, teams must agree to a reschedule before Thursday, 23:59 UTC+0 and submit proof via screenshot to the rescheduling channel on the Discord server. Reschedules themselves are possible to be done via Wybin.
- For a reschedule past the deadline to be accepted, the teams will have to ensure availability of a referee themselves and include this in the reschedule message.
- Matches that didn't keep to the deadline will have less priority in being streamed than reschedules that kept to the deadline
- The captain of a team is responsible for rescheduling, picks, bans and making sure their team is in the know about how the tournament works.
- Self-Reffing is not allowed under any circumstances.
- In case of a tie, the map in question will be replayed.
- All times in UTC
Registration
- Players can register as free agents (solo signup) or directly as a team via Wybin.
- Team registration is possible if two or three players band together and the captain submits signs them up as a team. Players then need to confirm the addition to a team via Wybin.
- There will be a discord channel available to actively advertise either your team or yourself if you still haven't found all your teammates.
- You must be signed up as a free agent or as a team by the end of the player registration phase to be allowed to participate in the tournament.
- Hosts will put the free agents that haven't made a team by the end of registrations in teams at their own discretion.
Screening
This tournament will be manually screened and so staff reserves the right to deny certain players from participating if in doubt about their validity. These reasons might include suspiciously new account or unnatural distribution of top plays next to tournament performance seen on other tournaments. Players can still be removed during the tournament for extremely offensive behaviour, not heeding the tournament rules etc. but screening itself is completed upon end of qualification phase.
After our past experiences with multi accounting in season 1 (which was luckily discovered) we have decided to deny all players with accounts made after May 2024 from participating in season 2 of BFF if it cant be proven to near certainty that they are really legit. As much as we are sorry for those legitimately being new players that ended up maining catch from the start and finding their way into the community already, we ended up concluding that this was the course of action we wanted. We are aware this will be frustrating if you are one of the few people that fit this criteria but ask for your understanding.
An appeal can be made to the tournament staff in case of being screened out. In general players being screened is an exception and won't matter for most of the players.

Tournament Procedure
- All matches will be played in ScoreV2 and TeamVS.
- This tournament will be played in a double-elimination bracket.
- All teams will play in a qualifier to determine seeding for the bracket stage.
- The amount of teams advancing beyond the qualifiers will be dependent on the amount of teams playing their qualifiers. Intended start of the bracket stage is RO32. Tournament staff will announce the bracket size once the amount of teams having done qualifiers is evident.
- In the case of a RO24 start, the top 8 teams from the qualifiers will be given a bye into round 2 with the remaining teams starting in round 1.
Mappool Information
Each stage will include the following amount of maps:
- Mappools will be similar to the older style with converts as well as specifics.
- Nofail will be enabled at all times.
- For DoubleTime, HardRock, EZ and EX maps, players are allowed to add Hidden if they choose to do so.
- EX will be played with Freemod enabled. The HardRock player is allowed to add Hidden if they choose to do so. Easy and Flashlight are not allowed.
- Freemod is enabled on the Tiebreaker.
Each stage will include the following amount of maps:
- Qualifiers (4.1*): 4 NM, 2 HD, 2 HR, 2 DT, 1 EZ
- Round of 32 (3.5*): 4 NM, 2 HD, 2 HR, 2 DT, 1 EZ, 1 EX, 1 TB (Best of 9, 1 Ban)
- Round of 16 (3.9*): 4 NM, 2 HD, 2 HR, 2 DT, 1 EZ, 1 EX, 1 TB (Best of 9, 1 Ban)
- Quarterfinals (4.3*): 4 NM, 3 HD, 3 HR, 3 DT, 2 EZ, 2 EX, 1 TB (Best of 11, 2 Bans)
- Semifinals (4.7*): 4 NM, 3 HD, 3 HR, 3 DT, 2 EZ, 2 EX, 1 TB (Best of 11, 2 Bans)
- Finals (5.1*): 4 NM, 4 HD, 4 HR, 4 DT, 2 EZ, 2 EX, 1 TB (Best of 13, 2 Bans)
- Grand Finals (5.5*): 4 NM, 4 HD, 4 HR, 4 DT, 2 EZ, 2 EX, 1 TB (Best of 13, 2 Bans)
The SR is merely an estimate for the NM1 of a round and may differ.
Qualifier Proceedings
- Multiple lobbies will be set up during qualifiers. Teams can sign up to a lobby of their choosing to do their qualifier via WyBin. Teams can ask for a custom lobby if required.
- The referee will create a multiplayer lobby at least 10 minutes before the scheduled time with the format “BFF 2: Qualifiers Lobby #X" where X is the lobby based on the schedule sheet.
- All teams will play the qualifier pool in the order NM => HD => HR => DT => EZ.
- Teams can play each map of the qualifier mappool twice.
- A team may skip their 2nd run on all or some maps.
- The higher team score for each map from both runs is taken for seeding calculation.
- Each team must have 2 players on any given map.
- Teams can switch players freely between maps.
- A break of 5 minutes between the first and second playthrough of the qualifiers pool can be taken at the captain's request.
- Qualifier POV streaming is allowed, but we ask that you do not share your qualifier mp link until after the qualifier results are out. In the same sense, the match-feed channel will be hidden from players until after qualifiers. This is to avoid any kind of seed manipulation.
- The seeding method used will be classic golf method (avg. map ranks).
- This means that between the 2 runs a team can do per map, the higher team score is counted. Thereafter all teams are ranked per map. An average rank will be calculated out of all 11 qual maps. The lower (=better) that average rank the higher your seeding.
- If two teams end up with the same average rank values, the total score will act as tiebreaker for seeding.
Bracket Proceedings
Lobby Setup:
If a team is late to their matches, the penalties are as follows (as "late" counts having less than 2 players in the lobby):
- The referee is to create a multiplayer lobby at least 10 minutes before the scheduled time with the format "BFF 2: (Team Red) vs. (Team Blue)".
- Each team may have one warmup per match with a maximal length of 3:30 minutes.
- The warmup is to be uploaded on wybin at least 1 hour before match time to avoid unnecessary delays. Ideally you will want to inform your ref and streamer of this. If no warmups are provided by then, referees are free to refuse accepting them.
If a team is late to their matches, the penalties are as follows (as "late" counts having less than 2 players in the lobby):
- 5 Minutes late: No Warmup allowed + Opponent is treated as Roll winner
- 10 Minutes late: The other team wins by default.
- If both teams can’t find at least a 2nd player within 15 minutes, the higher seeded team will win by default.
- For Round of 32 and Round of 16 each team must ban one beatmap. From Quarterfinals to Grand Finals each team will have 2 bans.
- Pick and Ban order is decided by rolls. After the warmups, both team captains have to use the "!roll" command when the referee asks them to. The winner of the roll is the one rolling the higher number.
- The roll winner gets to decide if they want to ban first and pick second or if they want to ban second and pick first. Both picks and bans alternate in an ABAB format.
- The pick phase follows after the ban phase.
- Teams are provided with a 2 minute timer to state a pick and another 2 minute timer to get their players into the lobby and readied up.
- If teams don’t pick by the end of their timer, the pick will be rolled by the referee with the "!roll X" command, where X is the number of still available maps minus tiebreaker.
- The referee may first give a warning before rolling the pick. This is done at the referee's own discretion, the referee is not required to give a warning first.
- The referee is allowed to use the "!mp start 10" command after the timer ends regardless of if a team has 2 players in the lobby or not. The referee may first give a warning.
- Each team may have one tactical timeout per match. They can use it at any time in the match during their own pick phase before the tiebreaker. A tactical timeout will lead to an additional 2 minute timer being added on.
- The tactical timeout may be denied if a team was not staying within their timers during the match.
- One 2 minute timeout may also be taken before the tiebreaker is started if both teams agree to it (Note: One 2 minute timeout for both teams combined)
- In case of a disconnect/ tech issue within the first 30 seconds after a map has been started, the team/player in question EITHER has to contact the ref within said 30 seconds and ask for an abort OR the MP link has to show that a player disconnected from the lobby within 30 seconds after a map has been started.
- An abort is only possible once per team per match.
- A team cannot change their lineup for an aborted map except if one of the original players can't reconnect. In that case the other team will also be allowed to change their lineup if wanted.
- If a player disconnects after the 30 second window, their score can still be counted if they can provide sufficient proof of their score in the form of a replay or screenshot with fitting time stamp (eg. they dc'd from the lobby but still were able to finish the map on their end). The referee can accept or deny the score at their discretion. If ambigious at all, the point will always go to the team winning according to the mp link.

While most of the pooling already has been done over the course of the year, we are still very much open to switch out currently pooled non-customs for fitting custom maps. People interested in custom mapping are therefore encouraged and highly appreciated for dming one of the hosts for further details.
