WAGGGGGGH hiii I was wondering if my osu progress is normal ! I've been playing for around 1-2 hrs and I've survived till 2.5 stars ! (I didn't FA 2 stars, but I survived pretty well~)

Hi mizukiaaaaa!
So far you're just started playing osu! and I see that you're well up to 2.5*. Basically, that's a good start.
Hope you can improve more and eventually full combo (FC) a 2 star. c:

Edit: And any osu! related stuff go to here. Thanks!

Congrats on being able to pass 2.5* maps. However, given your very low accuracy even on a low 1* map, if you want the best growth possible playing this game I think it'd be best to stay in the sub-1* to maybe 1.2* range for now.

while it's true that at your level of skill (not to sound disparaging) simply playing as many maps as possible will help you improve, there are a couple things you can and should try to focus on as an apparent beginner to rhythm games.

1.) pay attention to the approach circles (the ring that closes in on each object once they appear). To get the best acc (and not miss, of course!), you need to time your key press so that the circle is on the outer edge of the object you're hitting (either the regular circles or the sliders that have the ball moving along the internal track). You can also use something called the unstable rate bar (or UR for short) that's usually at the bottom of the screen to track the timing of your hits.

As an Example

Ignore the stuff at the bottom right[/img]

The blue in the middle is the timing to get 300 (the best possible), the green is for 100s, and the orange/red at the end is for 50s, and for each object you hit you'll see a tick appear on that bar telling you if you're late (to the right of center) or early (to the left). You can also directly connect the timings to the objects as on the default skin each one will show the score you got after you hit each object. In the example above, there is a 50 that popped up because I hit that particular object too late, alongside a red bar on the UR at the bottom (although it's hidden by the frame tracker data). I don't recommend taking your eyes off the main screen as you're playing so you can focus on playing the game, but it'll help as you review your plays to see where you were off.

2.) develop rhythm sense. I'm sure you've grown up listening to music as you're driven around to places by your parents (I 'm assuming you're too young to drive) or at home. If you pay attention you can listen to the drums being hit at a certain specific rhythm, or that all the instruments are playing at a certain speed. Being able to pick up on that beat or that speed (or bpm, as it's usually called) is what rhythm sense is all about.

As you're playing, notice how each of the objects is usually placed to sync up with the drumbeat, or the lyrics the vocalist is belting out, or some other rhythm played by another instrument at the time. If you can figure out the rhythm they're playing, you'll have an even better chance of hitting each object as accurately as possible. Furthermore, you can even start predicting at least when you need to tap next as you follow the beat.

There are multiple other skills, some general to all rhythm games and some specific to Osu, but those can be talked about later once you start playing 3*/4* maps.

As for why I'm telling you to stay at the lowest star rating (or SR for short)? Mainly it's an estimation of where you'll best learn the basics given the accuracy of your 6 plays so far. IMO it's important to not try to learn skills in osu while simultaneously trying to play maps that are about as hard as you can feasibly survive because you're normally more focused on, well, surviving to learn anything--this isn't anime, after all. So, to focus on learning these things, you're gonna play at the easiest possible level you can that isn't going to be a complete cakewalk--although you haven't yet built that particular skill floor. The general accuracy you want to go for is about 95%, either with or without a FC (full combo, not missing a single object), though lowering it no lower than 90% is also acceptable. After that, you can up the SR rating by .2-.3* as you go.

That was quite the wall of text. I'm rather verbose and lean more on overexplaining than underexplaining, so don't feel too discouraged reading all that. The main points are this: Play at a lower SR to learn, practice your timing to hit in the blue section, and learn to play to the rhythm of the song. Get good at those, and you'll improve in no time.
