Monitor Chat's. I wait until some good BATs to mod, like Starrod (don't see him often), JJJ, Larto, etc...

No.

I am friends with people.

We have fun together.

Right, Larto?
foulcoon
I usually just call in favors.

Oh wait I haven't had a map in pending for ages.

While it has been stated, and eventually proven, that the above statement is a fallacy, I wonder...

will being a douche bag make it harder for your map to get modded? That, I don't know.
lukewarmholiday
I dunno awp my maps usually get modded pretty quickly when I start requesting.

Mostly via PM. Sorry for all the BATs I've bothered, and thanks to all the BATs that have been awesome. :P

Accroding to poll's result, we proved that Forum-PM is the worst method cause they ignore that >_>

And
Why all you guys are ignoring about this minor question
<And how often do you send mod requests to BATs?>
Is it hard to answer?

Anyways it might be fun if you guys tell what BAT say when you give mod requests to them.
(Cause I haven't sent any mod request to BATs via in-game PM)
Mashley
I bug my friends in #osu or vent until they mod my maps :p

People who aren't friends with BATS: takes 2 months to get map ranked even when it has 50+ priority for 3 weeks

http://osu.ppy.sh/s/9107

People who are friends with BATs/are BATs themselves: takes less than a week to get map ranked as soon as it has 8 priority

http://osu.ppy.sh/s/10125

Or even less than 8

http://osu.ppy.sh/s/10286

(No offense intended to the maps I chose, just randomly picked examples to illustrate a point)
Vanmonky
No matter by what I contact the BATs, they will always ignoring me. Believe me, the only PM I got from BAT is only Loginer's. I sent 10 PM to 10 BAT, but only 1 PM form 1 BAT that response to me.

@ MegaManEXE

I agree!!!!! A new noobish mapper like me who don't have any friend in osu! can take 1 year to get the map ranked.
eee
First, once I bump into a signature that is taking requests, I do what it says, may it be forum pm or in game.
If not, I just ask in game when I'm very desperate.
Also, this "friendship with BATs" should stop. I understand not looking at the maps of annoying players, but that doesn't mean all BATs are the nicest people in the game.
Wojjan
I just get a lot of SP, and someone always comes around to check in the end.

A map needs generally follow the guidelines, meet the ranking standards, and be noticed and checked out by at least two BAT members to become ranked. (It also needs 8 SP and other minor things like that.) I think your thought (BAT looking at map == map gets ranked) is incorrect.

MegaManEXE wrote:

Because the map generally follow the guidelines, meets the ranking standards, and was noticed and checked out by at least two BAT members pretty quickly due to connections.

MegaManEXE wrote:

JJJ made a mistake. Under the current rules (as far as I know) 8 SP is required before a bubble.

I don't see how the poll proves anything...

As often as I need. That is, when I feel my map is bubble-worthy or needs some special attention (e.g. check if something is rankable because of modder disputes).

Not my point.

Aren't BATs supposed to look at stuff by priority?

Siriru's map had 50+ priority and was on the front page (or second page when there were too many bubbles) for 3 weeks and not a single BAT gave it any attention, while stuff with far less priority was bubbled and ranked. It's not like JJJ made a wall of mods in his post, and it had already undergone a decent amount of modding, so there clearly couldn't have been THAT much wrong with the map preventing it from being ranked.

I don't have a problem with BATs giving attention to their friends' maps/other BATs' maps if they have fairly low SP, I think if anyone was a BAT they'd help out their friends a bit too. But when something has 50 SP for 3 straight weeks and not a single BAT looks at it just because the beatmap creator has no BAT connections, there is something wrong here.

Priority is pretty meaningless then.

I have no problem with the 'never ask bat, never get ranked' approach the system currently takes as if maps ever begin to get ranked with minimal communication between the BAT and the mapper, then problems will only arise later on as a consequence.

It makes perfect sense to me that you have to talk to the BATs and get known as active members of the immediate community if you want to contribute. People complaining about that need to stop being so antisocial and start hanging out more. Remember that you map for the community, not for yourself.
anonymous_old

Ephemeral wrote:

Not really.

All I'm saying is that priority does not NEED to be a factor for a BAT when they decide to mod a map (excepting the 8 SP rule).

Ephemeral wrote:

More like, if you want a map ranked, it needs to be made for the community, not yourself.

You can chose to map for your personal reasons.

You sure are pedantic.
Jarby
Spinsmith was part of a beatmapping I made in the first place, hence September getting bubbled so quickly. Secondly, I simply liked the song Tigerlily and wanted to see the beatmap of it, priority be damned, but I would have waited longer to mod it if it weren't so well-made. It's not as if I was modding these maps because they were requested to be or because of the mappers that created them.
K2J
Just hang around in #mod, usually, using in-game PMs to remind/pester if they've expressed interest before. Forum PMs are usually last resort, since I know those are a lot less personal.

In short, I'm usually just lucky.

EDIT:

strager wrote:

Ranking is a process to get a map accepted by the community anyway, so of course you're going to have to sell your map to them. You might think that techno-electric airship-hoppin' music is serious jizz, but others might not.

I won't speak for everyone, but for what it's worth:

The current PM system really annoys me, but I don't have the time to improve on it at the moment, either.

i tried to talk with a BAT member in the in game chat once. i asked him if he could look for my map but i got no answer and i thought he would remember the beatmap and look for it later. but he did not look for the beatmap and i was thinking i was only annoying when i ask again to look for my map. and then maybe he would never look at it or refuse to look because i ask again. so i dont contact the BAT for my beatmaps anymore.
I just wait and let them die or maybe i am lucky again and one of my map get ranking and i dont even notice it :)

but i have voted for "in game chat" because it is the way i would connect with a BAT member
awp
everybody knows the best way to connect with a BAT is a good right hook to the jaw

Believe it or not, "BAT request" isn't a password to get a BAT to look at your map. There are hundreds of maps in pending right now, why should going "BAT request" in #mod give one priority over everyone else?

You know how to get BATs to NOT look at your maps? Tell them they are doing a crappy job.
bmin11
We can't judge BATs really. Osu! is not their first priority
awp
lesson to be learned: not everyone is at your beck-and-call

people are doing you a favour or service out of their own good will by doing something like modding a map (unless there are ulterior motives such as the "it's fun to mod!" mentality some users possess)

probably should not hold a bad opinion of people who do not divulge your selfishness

More like some BATs are saying,
"Oh that's cool."
I kind of forgot to state that they made it obvious that they were ignoring them.

Eh. Sometimes BATs are busy modding other things, doing their own things, or just don't really feel like modding. In a perfect world, everyone mods once for every time their map gets modded, and mods are spread around evenly. Unfortunately, there're a lot more mappers than active modders, and I'm pretty sure most active BATs are already modding more than their share would be if they were regular community members.

They also have the issue that they often stick to one map until it gets bubbled, which means that one map might need to be modded several times, making it even harder to go through their queue. BATs just can't take on 5 new maps everyday or something like that.

Yawn. I'm going to grab some cookies.
