I'm pretty sure that about 5 years ago osu! had a singing contest called osu!idol. Does anyone know why/when/if it stopped being held? This is something I remember before leaving the game for a long while so I might just be super behind. But the last results I found for the contest on the site were some years ago now.

Why comment if you have absolutely nothing of value to add.

I'm just curious. I wish I knew what was osu!idol in detail because there's literally nothing anywhere talking about that, except here.

hey, it's ok, don't worry at all! I'm glad I can tell someone else about it. Here's what it says on the wiki:

'osu!idol
osu!idol is a singing contest where participants from all across the community compete to create the best song cover (either solo or with a partner) across multiple judging and community voting stages. The contest is named after the Idols franchise and is mainly inspired by various televised singing competition shows.'

If you go to Will Stetson's profile ( users/4909088 ), you can see the badge on their page for winning osu!idol 2018, and Hanami Arisa ( users/10093980 ) has the badge for 2019!

The auditions opened in 2020 but, no winners were announced, and nothing since then. That's why I was wondering what happened...

Because Google shows nothing if you search up osu!idol and not a lot of people want to search through mountains of forums posts to just to find what was it.

the first thing that shows up when you google "osu!idol contest" is the wiki page for contest where it is explained wiki/en/Contests#osu!idol

I think they're talking about the issue that if you just google 'osu!idol', it's buried underneath a load of maps of YOASOBI's song 'Idol'. I was having trouble until I added the word 'contest' to the end too. the wiki does give a bit more detail and lists the winners if anyone is interested, so it's a good place to start! Either way, I'm happy I can discuss this topic with other people, so it's no problem about not knowing what osu!idol is or how to find it!

I'm very intrigued to know if anyone else remembers other stuff that wasn't documented on the wiki.

I did end up finding the link to a forum thread from the 2017 contest:https://osu.ppy.sh/community/forums/topics/617845?n=1
where you can see stuff like the judging documents/rules e.t.c.

Youtube search results for 'osu!idol contest' or 'osu!idol singing contest' didn't show much else, and the forum search even less. if anyone remembers any videos/posts made about it by the contestants I'd be super interested!!

damn, bro is holding back no punches.

that said, I've noticed a LOT of this on the forums, the goal is simply to get as many posts in as possible, even sometimes in cases where they clearly don't grasp the purpose of the original post (they'll just make a guess and toss in a reply).

not trying to single out anaxii as I'm sure there are others who do the same, and I'm sure he has no ill intent.

but it's honestly especially irritating in gameplay & ranking bcz you'll be trying to give advice to someone and it just gets drowned out by people who want a +1 to their post total.

My favourite farm post was "I might post again later".

I literally didn't notice that badge from Will Stetson's page before. It would be great to see this event up-to-date!
