Problem details:

Question, I just got a new laptop and started playing the game(I play Mania). I really don't want to break my computer, so does anyone have any tips for playing on a laptop keyboard without buying a new one/completely ruining the computer?(I've heard it can mess it up)

Best would be buying an external keyboard. NGL I'm typing from a laptop which is 10 years old of which I've been bashing it because Taiko, changed bindings maybe like every 2 years, and only recently it starts to show symptoms of tourette syndrome. For the record, I actually tap. Not light tap, not bash.

*OH right. If you play 7k diff you should also consider the anti-ghosting option.

You really should invest in an external keyboard if you have the money/space. I can't simply because I don't have enough room for one right now but it is definitely on my mind.

If you can't, then just try to play as nicely as possible. Be ready to switch your bindings at least once a year (as early as 5-6 months if you're heavily using them/smashing them when angry, maybe as late as 2 years if you're lightly using them and keep your anger off them--or don't even get that angry!). I've had to switch my bindings in about 3-4 months recently, though I kept the standard z/x for at least 2 years before that wore out. Feels like the others are just a byproduct, though my current o/p binds have held for those 3-4 months so far.

Get an external keyboard.

My laptop is 13 years old and while the keyboard doesn't feel bad I play on an external monitor so if you do please consider one.

+1 for the above replies, external keyboard really helped me with input latency and thus accuracy

Playing mania on a laptop keyboard is very scary. Don't risk anything and just buy a keyboard like great_elmo said
