lore
despite its silliness, this map carries a lot of sentimental value for me, particularly the topdiff. it was one of a few projects I was working on during the week of June 2nd-8th, 2024 - this was also the week of PACE Summer 2024, the first speedrunning convention I ever attended. (if you've ever heard of GDQ, PACE is pretty much like that but about half the size.) that week, I made so many wonderful memories with wonderful people I was meeting in person for the first time, including my girlfriend.
those memories come flooding back to me when I look at this map, because whenever there was downtime, I would map on a laptop I had brought with me. I remember mapping in the hotel lobby and on the hotel bed. I remember mapping in the backseat of my friend's car, which thankfully didn't induce nearly as much nausea as I was anticipating. I even specifically remember mapping the long "ooooo ooooo ooooh" sliders on a monitor in the venue's practice room, and laughing with the people around me about the ridiculous shapes I was making.
it's so gratifying, and a little surreal, to have all those moments preserved statically in a piece of creative work I've made. and yet at the same time, it's just a level in a video game that people can play and be rewarded for. isn't that a little crazy? that's what i love so much about osu.
anyway, hope my yearly attempt to be genuine in a map description wasn't too corny. if you're unsure about mapping, please try it. it's fun
