Round 18: Deathstreams

Nominated by NoHItter. The infamous Deathstream makes it's way to a rating thread! They are very long and difficult streams consisting of sliders (with or without repeats), hitcircles or a combination of both.

Map(s)
Hatsune Miku - Hatsune Miku no Shoushitsu [Uninstall]
Yoko Shimomura - Cackletta Soul Battle [Insane]

I live for deathstreams, they're what makes osu! a blast

3 only cause I can't beat them. Why are these so popular, jumps are fun, these are annoying to try to beat.
Kytoxid
I actually feel that jumps are annoying, while deathstreams are fun. XD

Omg, without deathstreams osu! doesn't exist.
arien666
Hard with osu!
Hard with Taiko
Hard with CtB

But I like Deathstreams XD

I'd rather have short streams, like 7 max, that aren't a jumble of approach circles. It's always fun when I can just spam Z/X with the beat and get all 300s or 100s, and somehow not combobreak on a stream of like 20 sliders-notes. It isn't very satisfying though, even worse when it combo breaks.

*thinks about Marisa*

Jumps are ezpz though, silly heads.

Unnecessary additional difficulty, in my opinion. (oh no, it's a TVTropes link) Although that could be because I simply can't do them... nah, it's not only that. At least for me, there are other possible ways of making a map harder (or better, faster or stronger) without recurring to deathstreams whenever a series of rapid beats comes up in the song.
But, that's just, like, my opinion, men. The opinion of someone who sucks at osu!.

3. A lot of fun when used right, but they can be horrendously ugly (second screenshot) or a bad way to increase difficulty if used wrong.
eee
1. spaced very very close together (some Cyclone map(s) I don't remember) like the one in the first ss= cool and fun
2. spaced slightly overlapping each other (most 1/4 deathstreams in maps spaced with 1.0x) = fine with me
3. spaced horrendously far apart (Du Hast (I think they can be considered deathstreams)) = NOOOoooooOOooo, they add difficulty, but are extremely difficult.

no no no I hate this especially mystearica style >:(

however I use them occasionally on my insane maps
Mystearica
Likewise to the above but I'm giving this a 5, deathstreams that follow the music are awesome and I basically play this game to hit streams now so what other reason do I need?

You can hate my maps but that's how I will map and I try to fit in with the music so as much as you hate my deathstreams there will be more, not less. :P

It's because you map in that "oh god 130-140 BPM" range that I can't zx slow enough and using left click only kills my arm.

Exactly 140 is the worst.
Mystearica
Well I can only tell you how much my own maps has helped me in playing streams, I used to be terrible at slow BPM and now I'm much much better. As well, a lot of my streamy maps are ~150 BPM or higher, those are easier to play to.
FurukawaPan
I think it maybe varies from person to person which speed is the absolute worst. I think that point lies somewhere in between the fastest pace you can single click and the slowest pace you can L/R click. If your own skill has either one of these overlap, then you are good at all speeds (except those that are even too fast for you to click both buttons).
Mystearica
Wait I missed something @ Lybydose.

So you mean to tell me that people judge maps based on bpm? 130-140 BPM + streams = hate map? What the hell is that horseshit. Correct me if I'm wrong but it seemed like that kind of a message. If you can't play a map well, practice and don't complain about the BPM being in a range that you aren't used to.

Also, I find your example (JTB) to be an extremely fun and not very challenging map. Maybe because I've practiced on a lot of my own maps and thus can play 130-140 BPM? Hmmm...

Beautiful to watch people like Gladi and Lesjuh do these.

2 or 3 cause I suck at these, it takes me 3 re-tries to nail the same stream ~_~,

not voting on the poll by the way.
Arusha Shuna
votes 5 only because i enjoy them in CtB, even though i don't play CtB much

good lookin' if the bpm is low enough (not too low)
high bpm death streams are fffffffffffffffffffff
Gens
Normal streams are probably fine but... these don't fit the music most of the time. Plus they can get quite ugly if not done correctly.

That does not even look rankable, quite frankly.

Deathstreams (sans the example above) are acceptable as a tool for Novice mappers to use when they can't think of any patterns, but imo this should be treated with a sharply-decreasing return. Given the low correlation between most songs and any given deathstream, it has a robotic feel to it.

Deathstreams. Gotta love em.

It depends...

Overmapped deathstreams are retarded. When the music "calls" for it, and it's nice to play, it's very good.

Although, some deathstreams are ridiculous.

Is this a deathstream? In my opinion this is a slider crapstream. D:
On this map, there is a good stream few seconds before. Pure notes 1/4 at 240 BPM, hell yes.

Hate to play but are nice to map with. \:D/

Best type of rhythm to use for a series of quick, swift beats and/or drum rolls in the music :) I'd use them frequently in Hard/Insane + diffs 4/5
