So…
I’ve been playing on stable for about a year or so now and I still keep debating whether or not to switch to lazer…

Thoughts? Pros and cons?

Lazer features mobile, Mac and Linux support, along with a revised look and mechanics (slider head accuracy etc.). It is a bit more demanding on hardware than stable. See Upgrading to lazer.

Yeah indeed, I really like Lazer but it's mainly the UI that throws me off to be honest...

Though I suggest try it yourself, if it's smooth in gameplay things are good

Some subjective (As in what I like) pros to mainly play on lazer client over stable:
1. Easier HUD customisation. Previously on stable, you have to use skin folders, know how to edit skin elements yourself, etc. Now on lazer, you have easier option to simply move and resize skin elements
2. No Notelock. I personally don't mind notelock but I'm aware a huge portion of players do, so there you go
3. Easier to pass hard maps. If you're more of a pass player rather than consistency, lazer might benefit you
4. Your mileage will vary, but the lazer performance is better on my laptop than on stable

I think you can try both and play it side by side, decide it for yourself. If you have some specific problems persist on lazer (poor performance, lag spikes, weird aiming, consistency issue, simply can't get used to it, etc) then I suggest to hold back a bit for future updates

The number of players on Lazer is still insignificant for a reason, it doesn't take as much convincing as people make out to get someone to switch to truly better software... Whether you personally will have the same issues with it that the majority of players do, who knows.

It lags like crazy on some maps (and my computer is not bad). Also, it just feels off. I constantly hit late (not an offset issue) and my aim is noticeably worse on it.

As far as gameplay goes, the removal of notelock is a great feature. Many flow aim maps are objectively easier, which can make farming easier.

On many maps, though, it's harder to get pp because of slider acc (there are plans to eventually make slider acc increase pp but for now it doesn't), which also puts many people off.

Damn thanks for all the replies, I was really curious about other people’s opinions about it ^^

I switched over to lazer for a few days before but went back to stable because of the UI in lazer >_<

I hope they're going to change the UI because it's really horrible...

Indeed, single-handedly the only thing that’s stopping me to make the switch, they should make it “skinnable” or have an option to have the stable UI imo

The option to have the stable UI sounds like a good idea, but I'm sure they don't care about that ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I tried playing Depth mod last night and my PC nearly exploded. I didn't think my computer was that bad, but apparently it is.

Tried to talk about that on GitHub yet? peppy is really open to the community, so saying "I'm sure they don't care" feels just not right

I think UI skinning would need a more complex skinning system...

Of course it's been talked about. It's one of the most common things brought up on github, in the dev discord, and in youtube comments. If he doesn't know what players want by this point, it's by willful incompetence. "I'm sure they don't care" is a reasonable conclusion to come to.

Of course and I'm not the only one to say this. It's clear that they're reading everything on GitHub, but I'm afraid it will take a long time before that happens due to the complexity of making the UI customizable. If not, they'll focus on more important things without going back over it

I much prefer stable's leaderboards. I like seeing my global rank on the map and knowing that it's based on an objective comparison to other scores. Also when I use the friend leaderboard, I don't want my scores to be inflated just because I'm playing on lazer (most of the time slideracc doesn't make enough of a difference to justify the 0.96x debuff - not to mention other modes also receiving the debuff). Even if I wanted to use the classic mod to make it an even comparison, scores with it don't even submit to the global leaderboard. The leaderboards on lazer just feel like a joke in terms of competitiveness compared to stable, last time I checked you could literally use the random mod and be on the global leaderboard. There's a feeling of realness and permanence to scores in stable, but I just don't get that feeling when I set scores on lazer. Having separate leaderboards for lazer and stable seems like a bad idea in the first place, it makes it harder to transition from stable to lazer. Why play on lazer where my scores won't be recorded on stable's leaderboard, the one which I prefer, when I can continue to play on stable and have my scores uploaded to both (albeit with the classic mod applied on lazer).

Sorry if this turned into more of a rant, the global leaderboard is a part of lazer that I don't see addressed or brought up much for how big of an issue it is.

Choose based on what you prefer, this is only my experience.

No, thanbks for reminding me though, I'm gonna do that right now. ^^
