Why can we not have nice things

All I want is to use the spinner to headpat an animated chibi.
Why do I have to do something weird like this to have just a glimpse of what I want?

Where is Peppy, Can someone tell him to unlock the animation for spinner background.
I'm sure our 2024 computers can brute force it to not drop our frames to single digits.
I'm also sure that getting it to be animatable is literally a single boolean flip from false to true.

It's not about being logical, it's about being FUN.

Stable is feature locked, for multiple reasons.

Adding new stuff on what's essentially legacy spaghetti from 2007 isn't boiled down to "just add it lawl"

Last time new skinnables were added (last year that is), song select quite literally was in a broken state for a few days. And the only reason those were enabled in the first place was to hopefully make it a more future friendly solution while lazer is being worked on. Perhaps maybe even support legacy UI to some extent. (Not a promised feature, just my speculation. Didn't have a talk about it with anyone)

If dev time was spent on every single feature request the community wants to be skinnable/added lazer wouldn't be out until 2077. And we can only pray lazer skinning is more advanced and skinner friendly than current stable.

Thus my take ends.

It's not adding a new skinnable...
It's just changing a single variable.

The most likeley cause of why map select was broken was simply due to the new skinnable item being in the way of clicking...
As in, if you tried to click something, instead of clicking that something you clicked the new skinnable thingy.
Infact looking into the issue, my guess was actually 100% correct, as people were complaining of "If texture too big, can't click"
(Also, no this is not cause of spaghetti code, just for the record
Example of spaghetti code would be something like in the game The Forest, if you unplug your headphones from your computer while playing, you will no longer be able to use Zip lines in the game)

No matter how spaghetti code it is, code is still code and follows simple rules. It ain't magic.
(Unless it's The Forest)

Making a modification for osu!lazer is an option.

The elements made skinnable in that update weren't new. They were in the game since the beginning. All that was changed was a single variable making these files skinnable. That caused the song selection animations to break, sometimes disappear, or become non-clickable.

Again, those weren't new assets.

Fair enough, I did not see such complaints.
But I won't question such bugs existing.

Most likely cause was that the Skinnable objects list has limited bits and the reason why some elements were not skinnable, was because it was long ago clear that the game can only have X amount of skinnable objects and that list was already full.
Obviously as it has been over 10 years Peppy forgot such limit.

But, those over 10 years ago, there was a discussion of making all skin elements animatable, and Peppy them selves said that "no can do, PC's will explode and run at 1fps" cuz back then PC's were kinda shit compared to today.
Sure it's a big assumption to make that Peppy back then would have known that it was possible, but didn't do it for that reason. Instead of making that as a excuse instead of explaining it was going to overflow something and he didn't wanna go through the trouble of finding the variables he needs to change to do it.
Which indeed does point to spaghetti code. xP

Too many animatable objects open the possibility of a malicious skinner trying to trigger photosensitive epilepsy on innocent people

true, but there are already skins like that and there would probably be a rule.
