Moving wrist or just finger when tapping

I was just wondering whether other players move their whole wrist when single tapping or just the finger itself like you would when playing the piano. I've always moved the whole wrist, but the hammering action hurts around the MCP way more after a while, then it seems to with just lifting the finger. I think I'll try and get used to the piano method.
Lmk how you play or if you have some wisdom on this
People tend to use their wrist because you can get more force out of it which allows you to time hits more easily. You'll probably find jumps a lot harder just moving your fingers. Although if it hurts to use your wrist then yeah probably stop doing that. Maybe consider using and putting the strain in your arm instead of your wrist, that might work too.
