Besides RSI there's also trigger finger disease. I am diagnosed and wondering if someone else has it... yes, it's condition caused by genetic predisposition but I assume playing osu! made it a bit worse (my doctor agreed to this). I play osu! (used to be 12k) and Taiko (soon to be 3-digit?).
My fingers only snap like in the wikipedia video after I just woke up. Usually I wake up with full fists, it's hard to open them. Actually I don't force them to open by themselves, it hurts too much. I open them manually with the other hand very slowly... Giving it around 10 mins it will be fine usually. But it leaves a weird feeling, kind of exhausting in the fingers the whole day. It slows me down while playing osu! and it explains why I couldn't singletap well ever. I really tried, I could never singletap consistently 180+ bpm which was really weird to me compared to others. I started to alternate in 2016 I believe, it made everything easier for me even though it took me some time to get used to it.
I got diagnosed after playing osu!. I went to the doctor and it almost result in hand surgery. I didn't do it because I read about people having even more issues after it, happening too often. About osu!, I did think about to completely quit playing. But I don't want to honestly, I don't play for anything else than enjoyment. At the moment it's getting a bit bad again so I'm playing less... I really wonder if others have it. I also wonder if you see similarities to RSI.
With all this being said, please take care of your health. If you struggle body-wise, take a damn break even if it affects your rank. Nobody cares. I noticed it all way too late and sometimes I still overdo it. A bit hard to learn and it pays you back in a negative way.
