Why are all the songs I want to play so difficult?

First time playing osu in a while and I just wanted to play some songs that I liked, I figured that I could just relax with, but when I found one that I remembered liking, i found that the difficulty was 4+ on every single one.

I tried doing it but i couldn't go past the 1min mark, so i tried looking for even more and all of them were either mind numbingly boring or painfully difficult, and when I thought I found the one it ended up being the other osu gamemodes.

Why is it that finding a osu track that i like so difficult, they're either graveyards, too difficult or too easy? I cant even find a decent one I like.

Many mappers dont really seem to see easy/normal/hard diffs as worth their time, because of all the restrictions they have to follow to get maps ranked for the sake of difficulty.

so if you happen to like songs longer than 4m15s, the lowest diff is usually going to be insane (around 4-low 5 stars usually) since that's all they actually need to make to rank the map.

also why many easier maps will feel same-y and boring - people follow a formula to make rankable low star maps quickly, and rarely spend the time trying to make an interesting map despite the restrictions.

honestly give those graveyard maps a try though, many will suck, but there are a few hidden gems you may like sometimes, not everybody feels like jumping through hoops to rank maps all the time.

If you can keep playing until you can play 4* maps, the game really opens up after that. unfortunate that its like this though.

Find joy in the maps, or find joy in the song itself. Until mappers have the motivation to not treat anything lower than 3* (probably 3.5*) as nothing more than an obligation to rank maps there won't be much change, and there isn't much that Peppy and co. can add to make that happen without likely causing a huge exodus of mappers that may take years to refill (if it even would).

The best players play hard maps, most newcomers wanna play those hard maps, and so mapmakers oblige. Either the top players would have to suddenly have a huge interest in playing, say, 2* maps (very unlikely), newcomers become more realistic about their ability to play the game and thus put more pressure on mappers to make those 2* maps entertaining now that there's more popularity (also very unlikely), or a set of mapmakers tackle the issue themselves and set to make "modern" 2* maps that are interesting and/or entertaining. Realistically that isn't going to happen without you yourself starting the change if you really want that, so the only other realistic option is to suck it up. (Here I'm referring solely to the maps, not the song you're mapping to; that can help, but can only take you so far.)

edit: Besides, assuming you were at 2-3M in the first place, you shouldn't even be touching anything over 3* until you've got a better grasp at the game.

And if you aren't, then you should be getting in touch with peppy to get your account back, not using an alt. It's so damn tedious that this kind of alt-ing isn't allowed, but so it goes.

i'm sure that there are also a plenty of songs that you enjoy that are playable for you, even if you're a 7 digit

the best thing would be to play more so you can become better and play those maps. it's like a form of motivation to push you to play osu, but you can also play other gamemodes if standard is too hard
