Then what do we say to them, have fun? If someone asks for tips why not give them tips for improvement

As for tips:

  1. Get a readable skin, take something from here https://skins.osuck.net/ or steal one from a top player or a youtube video
  2. Time your hitsounds to the music as you play, lowering the music volume to maybe 20% while keeping your effects volume at 100% helps with this
  3. You can search with tags to filter beatmaps under specific conditions wiki/en/Beatmap_search
  4. You can press f2 to find a random beatmap quickly, and shift f2 to go back
  5. If you don't want to spend a full minute of scrolling through your beatmaps to get to the bottom or the top or something, you can right click and that teleports you
  6. You can left click on a map to open it in the editor, which lets you scroll through the beatmap so you can look at a specific part if you want. You can also practice that part through the editor.

Right-click, you mean. Or go to Song Options at the bottom (to the right of Random). unless you're a lefty, then it would be left-click.

For more in-game stuff, remember that this is a rhythm game, not an aim game. Your goal should never be about having a good reaction time to whatever comes on screen, but playing the objects in tune to the beat and tempo of the song; when you have that in hand, then you can look cool for how you're able to read all that stuff so fast.

the UR bar at the bottom is your friend in reviews! To the left means you were early, and to the right means too late. It's usually not advisable to look at it while you play as it often takes more focus to figure out what was late or not which means you're going to miss stuff on-screen. However, if you watch the reply and/or use a recording or other means to watch the bar and your play at the same time later, you can use that to track how fast/slow you are in tapping.

In a similar vein, it's not a bad idea to use that review to check your aim. It can be hard to tell sometimes how you miss a note in a hard sequence (and if you have a playstyle like mine which renders this kind of review almost useless it just leads to excess aggravation, but give your actual play a look over and try to map what you see to how your hand is moving.

Lastly, and this is more of a personal opinion than anything, don't just settle for piddly-old 95-98% or whatever. I get that prevailing wisdom is that a 98-99% accuracy play is usually a good sign that you've got the song on lock, but what's the point of stopping there when you've got a shiny 100% that you can aim for? It does require you to play maps that seem easier than usual to compensate, but there's a certain joy in seeing that 100% and SS show up on screen that indicate you don't just have mastery but domination of a map. Plus it's fun to point out that I have over 10K SS's which is its own kind of dedication to farming out easy maps, but not even I would demand that of anyone without you seriously thinking it over. I just want more people to play for 100% on the maps they do have.

Nah, that's always good advice. The better you are at hitting the center, the less high CS will affect you, whether naturally or through HR.

but sometimes, trying to hit the center of the circles could be hard if the BPM is high

Not only on high cs, focusing on hitting the numbers perfectly in the middle of every circle is valuable on even 2 star maps. Doing this along sightread fcing 2-5 star maps have helped my aim consistency a lot in the past

hr is definitely good for that, but I don't think a new player can play 5 minute hr jump maps so I gave advice that could be applied to any skill level. the best advice is of course to have fun

ofc a new player can't play with hr, it makes OD and AR higher too

What's your acc?

If it's less than 90%, you're still pretty shit at the maps. If it's less than 80-85%, you shouldn't be playing it except for fun.

retry for score can do it - when your thoughts are not in hitting the circle better

retry if you think about improving gameplay, hit some circle, tap better, etc can be really good practice.

Agreed, in my experience relax doesn't help with anything at all.

Relax aim feels different to NM aim, due to how lenient Relax is.

download lots of maps, and i mean LOTS of maps, having a variety of maps always helps to give you exposure to different mapping styles, patterns and even just more options to choose from if you get bored.

well you're quite right. you can retry if you wanna improve. but retrying after every miss isnt really reccomended regarding to my experience.
