u place stuff by clicking, u end sliders and spinners by right clicking
its much easier to map with the song paused vs trying to live map while it plays, u can scroll to move ur position in time
there are dropdown menus in the top left of the editor, some of the tools in them are useful
top left > "File" > "Create a new Difficulty" lets u avoid the hassle of timing by using someone else's mapset as a base (the downside is that uploading becomes a hassle instead)
keyboard shortcuts make life easier: wiki/en/Client/Keyboard_shortcuts#beatmap-editor
the best way to learn is by messing around in the editor and just trying out all the tools at ur disposal
do not listen to anyone who tells u to watch/read tutorials before mapping, all of that is a total waste of time until u get used to the editor at the very least
