Hi I do not know if someone already requested this or is being implemented in lazer as I also do not know the search keywords for this topic but here it is.

Playing osu mania songs seems like just hitting random falling notes instead of playing a rhythm game, there is no rhythmic feel to the songs and there is no difference in timing or gameplay feel whenever the song speeds up or slows down on the fly especially when there are changes in tempo to the song, especially in catchy songs that requires you to have a rhythmic sense of flow or timing, the notes just appear as is and you just blandly press the corresponding keys to hit the note. This makes the whole game feel off at times and becomes less enjoyable over time, as I am not the only one who noticed the gameplay feel scenario community/forums/topics/1509029?n=1

My suggestion is that to add some level of animation/feel/bounciness/eyecandy to the osu mania notes depending on the songs being played so as to compare it with other rhythm games with a very good gameplay feel in order to make playing songs more enjoyable and improve the quality of the actual game. I will use DJmaxRV and O2jam as examples since they have the best gameplay feel out of all the PC VSRG's I have extensively played, and people will likely agree.

Also the spacing for dense notecharts in mania is really bad and gives eye fatigue which I have discussed a while ago in another topic for another time. Clearing the hardest songs on other rhythm games is possible but in osumania especially 4k getting an S on 4* 5* maps is next to impossible due to the spacing of the notes and almost zero readability, combined with the lack of gameplay feel which I have said earlier. The vertical spacing of the notes need also to be improved and not just the rely on increasing the scroll speed.

I'm having a hard time understanding what you want changed that isn't already possible by editing your skin, changing your scroll speed, or both. I also don't understand what you're trying to show with the diagrams in community/forums/posts/8657610

are you able to point out specifically which parts of the game you'd like to look different?

or, if you want to compare between o2jam and osu, can you take screenshots of the same chart in each game and point out which differences you'd like to see accounted for in osu?

Try playing both games to see what I mean, if youre too young to have tried o2jam, try djmax sc15 notecharts and compare that to 4* 5* osu maps and see the difference in gameplay feel. No skin edit in the ini can change the gameplay feel of the notes.

The main difference in feel in your examples comes just from a choice of skin. You can also have a skin that is as flashy and bouncy as the one djmax or o2jam uses (and there are a few examples you can download for it), but most people choose not to use them because they hurt readability. The bounciness is not achieved through changes in the .ini file, but by using animated sprites (which osu!mania supports).

As for differences in gameplay when the song slows down or speeds up, that's up to the ones who make the charts. osu!mania which like scroll velocity changes ("SVs") are a minority, so most charts don't use them; you can download chart packs which focus on SVs if you like them.

I have tried several skins and watched several youtube videos over the years and they are all the same. The gameplay feel is bad and the game oftentimes feels off due to the gameplay feel especially on playing high level songs. People have played O2 and Djmax for years and the bounciness and animation does not affect the readability, in fact it is much better because it improves the gameplay experience of the player due to the feel and rhythm of the notes. Point still stands and you will always see posts like these from time to time unless this section of the game is inmproved. community/forums/topics/1509029?n=1

If you have examples of these gameplay animation improvements especially on 6k or 7k mania please show it here so I can get ideas. I make specific skins myself and the gameplay feel is still the same.

I hope you can understand that this feedback isn't really helpful if you can't provide specific suggestions that the developers could act on.

I think one of the things you're suggesting is to have different animations available for the combo counter and hit results? that could probably be done.

and you clearly did try to point out something specific with your other post that had the images marked up with red lines, but I can't see what would be the issue there that you can't solve with some combination of skin and scroll speed changes.

please be more specific or give clearer examples of what you want to see added/changed

Yeah I think the right word for this would just to add animation to the combo counters and notes when it hits the timing windows depending on the songs, wherein you would actually listen to the song in order to time and hit the note instead of just hitting falling objects with no animation feel whatsoever.

It needs to look decent and at least look something like this:

Instead of looking like this which seems like just randomly pressing colored buttons falling on a vertical scale. I could just turn off the music and still get an S due to the blandness of the gameplay feel.

These are just my thoughts though as I have seen the new lazer updates and the gameplay feel is still the same. The game is free tho so I can't really complain. Just posting here what I see that needs improvement in comparison to other premium/paid rhythm games I have played in the past as I was a top player in O2ph once, and oddly enough me and the others thought of the same thing to do when playing osu mania: the other players in osu before (jhlee, ek, etc) tried to reskin the game so as make it similar to O2 thinking it was similar rhythmically to no avail as the gameplay feel is lacking/bland so what's left was the O2 skin on top of a different game with the lifeless combo counters and timing windows with no animation.
