first 3/4 are peak but man what a shitty ending
Bicentennial man is a movie about a robot who develops conciousness and free will, not the most groundbreaking concept but I love the way it's executed
the first half of the movie is really beautiful, the robot lives just as another member of the family, and time passes, he learns how to fit into society more and more, he even lands a job and makes a lot of money, building a future for himself, he sees everyone grow up, get married, form families, and die, everything changing but him
However it's not a sad movie, in fact, I would say it's very happy, I watched it with a big smile in my face and it's really a movie to transmit tranquility, the first half is just a very relaxing, beautiful look at life from the perspective of someone who is basically outside society and outside time
After the halfway point of the movie (I don't really consider this spoilers but do as you wish), the focus changes and the robot wants to be as human as possible, and to do things any other human would do, without people actually judging him or treating him different for being a robot
this on itself isn't bad, however, there is a big problem, this is a hollywood production from 1999, tho the year doesn't matter much as this is something they have yet to fix. Hollywood doesn't understand what being human means, at least on film
most american productions can only picture one way of life, and that is either you're middle or high class, live a normal life without much trouble, get married have kids and die. There isn't anything else to life, in fact, if you ever watch any american sitcom, every single character ends up married and having children and that's the end of the sitcom.
This doesn't apply to our robot since our robot is basically a god on earth, they're immortal, they're smarter than anyone else in the planet, they have perfect memory, etc etc. The first half is so good because the movie feels like it understand this, with that power the robot doesn't choose a high octane life, doesn't try to be a hero of war or a big political figure, he doesn't try to be the best scientist or win awards. With the power to shape humanity in any shape they want, the robot puts himself before humanity, and decides that the best course of life is to just enjoy life, enjoy the day to day, live a comfy life without much difficulty
there is a lot of philosophical questions of if doing this is right or wrong, if you have that much power, should you use it for good?, at what extent?, there are many answers to this, but honestly, I don't mind the ideology of this movie, live a comfy life first, if they can do good later, even if it's only for self-worth or whatever, that's good.
The later section of the movie, mainly the very last arc fails for me because this setting just doesn't work for this character, you can't pull your typical hollywood plot after that start and setup, and not because he's a robot, but more on how hollywood does things
They basically try adding a romance plot, because every successful life needs a lasting romance. Thing is, having the romance just work is boring according to them, so they try to add drama, but hollywood doesn't understand romance, so the robot turns into an asshole
the only way for hollywood to do drama in a romance is for it to exist a toxic relationship, a romantic "triangle" where it's just two people who are already going out and you try to steal that person away, and it's just... why
they picture this as the right and moral thing to do, as a celebration for the fact that they can feel love and therefore are a complete romance, and I feel it just throws away everything good this movie had built up
I don't like the very end of the guy refusing his immortality either, it's just, you can be human without living that one archetype of life, if you have advantages or differences to other people, use them, live with them, don't neglect them and try to mask it
sadly placed on C rank, just watch perfect days, it's way better

idk it's mediocre
really, it's as standard as it could be, it's a movie about this chameleon who have delusions of greatness and finds a town in the wild west (missouri) where he fakes being someone very cool and dangerous and then he isn't but he becomes a hero anyways.
This movie is very much inspired by shrek 2, a movie that was already kinda derivative to shrek 1 which was already derivative from other stuff so yeah no much originality here
it looks good, jokes mostly didn't land for me, didn't have a bad time with it tho, so eh

yet another unpopular opinion, I do not like paper mario
Paper mario is a RPG mario game released for the n64, and I just had a lot of problems with it
paper mario is a game where mario is made of paper, but really, only sometimes. Paper mario is written and shown like a theater play, there is a script you must follow, the dialogue feels like a theater with peach saying her feelings for mario out loud in a balcony, this is cool, but I feel they use this as a shield too much. Paper mario is an overpowered character, in fact, it being 2d breaks most conventional videogame design, paper mario just solves this by not really being consistent in the character design and what mario can or cant do
for example, there is a section where mario is thrown into a prision cell, well, escaping is as easy as just moving sideways through the bars, but instead, mario has do a regular escape since that's more fun for the plot. Point is, paper mario is only paper mario when the game decides that would be a funny gag, everything else must play into the script, and idk, it just feels weak to me, it's a nitpick yes I know but they could have written paper mario in a way it's consistent
the level design is weak in general, you get movement abilities through the game, mostly in the form of partners that also have combat utility, but they're not interesting skills, at least, they're not used that way. When something in a game require you to use a skill, it mostly feels like a check to see if you own that skill, they never do interesting puzzles or platforming with it, it's just "oh this gap is slightly too large for you to cross you better have the skill that allows you to pass"
there are also certain sections of the game which are just a slog to get through, I think the worst offender of this is actually bowsers castle, it's just a very boring section, the game uses all your skills (so it just checks you have it in the most boring way possible), but the worst is when the game tries to do a water section with a skill that allows you to mount a fish and travel across water. It's two big connected rooms where you got to run to one part of the room to pull a chain that brings the water out, then you move to the other side of the room to do another chain, then you move to the other side to get a key that you needed to open the door, and then you repeat the whole process again to get the water level down, the room ahs no enemies or any sort of thing for you to overcome, it's just walking. Bowser's castle even has a pick a path segment for the love of god
The combat however, that's actually an interesting topic
This game was released in 2004, and something that happened during this era of videogames is that every big AAA release was a RPG with turn based combat, it was the industry standard like how real time action is the standard now, it was just the blanket combat system that you put to every videogame, thing is, people hadn't really nailed turn based combat as of yet, a lot of mainstream games had pretty bad turn based combat where you kinda just figured out a ability was OP so you just spammed that for how much HP the enemy had and if that didn't work you would go grind enemies until your level was high enough
Paper mario tried to solve this in a way similar to how games like chrono trigger or FF7 had tried to do in the past, they tried the motions of turn based combat interesting, it was no longer just press the ability you wanted to use, paper mario required you to play a small minigame on each attack to get optimal damage and press a button while being attack to block it and recieve less damage
to this, they also completely reworked the XP system making it that your damage is not tied to your level but only attributes like mana or HP. This just doesn't work for me
you can ad as many minigames as you want, the combat is still just spam the strongest attack, and that gets boring, in fact, the bowser fight was very boring (turns out there wasn't any twist villain tho I was wrong on that), because, bowser couldn't kill me, they basically didn't do damage to me and I could recover all my HP easily, and bowser had a lot of HP, so it was like 15 minutes of just doing the same 3 attacks over and over again and then seeing bowser randomly decide to heal making the battle take at least 3 more minutes and I was just hoping for it to be over
also, the game is easy enough where the optimal way to play is basically to skip as much combat as you can, since your damage wasn't tied to your XP and you could often 1-2 all of the enemies and the XP gained scaled if you were underleveled, you can actually skip half of the combat in the game and still sweep the bosses, really, there is no point on actually engaging into combat, so every time I was touched by a enemy I was like "fuck I have to the boring combat now" since I know it wasn't actually providing anything to me
So yeah, this is not the way to make good turn based combat.

Gate: Jieitai Kanochi nite, Kaku Tatakaeri (only season 1)
showed promise but didn't live up to it
GATE is a anime about a dimensional gate that connects the real world with a typical isekai world, and the isekai world decides to lead an invasion to the real world, which then fails and the humans send a counteroffensive
the 3 first episodes or so are actually quite good IMO, it's edited in a very frenetic way, the tone is serious, and it actually made me believe that they were actually going to touch some interesting subjects, for example, the civilians of the fantasy world were afraid that they were going to rape the women like it has happened in many real world wars before, the most relevant for this anime is the japanese invasion of korea, however, this didn't last, as it turned out they didn't just mention rape as an actual topic to handle, they did it out of fanservice
The protagonist is an otaku, which is fine, there are a lot of otaku in anime unsurprisingly, works as a bit of a comedic relief, thing is, that otaku element slowly takes main stage, the characters when joining the fantasy world goes like "woahhhhhh I for sure want to fuck so many fantasy species" and it turns out that a few chapters later he has formed a harem
The war that was initially pretty well written starts making less and less sense, like, why keep pushing with the counteroffensive having lots of lots of casulties when it's clear you have total and utter techonological superiority and by just placing a watchpost at the gate you could prevent any harm done to our world?, why do the fantasy civilians keep talking about magic when that isn't something that really shows up in the anime?
it just becomes a very bland, self-insert fantasy type of anime, which is sad because it started great.

This is the real life story of the carandiru massacre, a police intervention in a brazilian prision where over 100 prisioners died while 0 police officers died.
The story is kinda anthological for the most part, this is set in the middle of the VIH epidemic, and a doctor goes to the prision to do tests and distribute medicine and all that sort of stuff, so the prisioners starts telling him their life stories, which are all pretty interesting
most of these stories try to frame the criminals into a more positive light, showcasing that even if they did horrible acts such as murder, they still held humanity, and should be treated as such, a human being, and it does a damn good job at this, you do get attached to the characters
it's also interesting how VIH is percieved in this movie, since it's a disease that was able to spread mostly due to a lack of sexual education and education in general, so no one but the doctor really understands how the disease works. You can excuse the prisioners for not knowing because they have been cut off civilization for a long time, but they're not the only ones that don't get it, the cops later on the movie don't understand it either. During the intervention, a prisioner goes like "you can't get close to us we have the VIH you will get it too" and the police responded by shooting them dead
The actual police intervention is brutal, it's abussive, it's just a really awful thing and it really comes out of nowhere
also, something that I didn't know until I read the wikipedia page, the actual movie is recorded on location
so yeah, good movie, I enjoyed, placed on A rank

this movie is a teen dystopia very inspired by hunger games and similar stuff about this guy who wakes up without memories and the only way to escape is across a maze with weird creatures that kill people
it's just a pretty boring movie, really, nothing really happens, it's just a constant I'M GOING TO INTO THE MAZE followed by YOU CANT GO INTO THE MAZE and that's the whole first hour and when the movie seems to start doing stuff it just ends since this movie is part of a trilogy and like this entire movie is exposure except the actual exposure only happens in the last 5 minutes of the movie and I didn't have a lot of fun watching it so i'm not going to watch the rest

also it didnt start from nowhere, it was a prisoner revolt that went to shit real quick.

It's not a very complex or deep movie, you're getting what you're expecting, as I say it's a feel good movie so everything does end well.
What I do find very interesting is how this movie was edited. It was way overedited, even for the smallest of reasons they will play like a montage with multiple clips at once with lower opacity placed one up the other and vocal songs even when the characters and talking and slow-mo scenes for character introduction even if the camera isn't high FPS so the slowed down footage just looks like laggy footage, it also has a b-plot I don't really understand

Nakitai Watashi wa Neko wo Kaburu
this is a movie I wanted to watch since 2020 because it's a shoujo romance original movie and I like that, I did not know the plot, I just knew it existed and I wanted to watch it
The movie is about this girl who swaps bodies with a cat, it's not a bad movie but it's also not peak. Both of the protagonist are pretty stuborn and really bad at communicating so it all moves thanks to an external force, my complain is that external force kinda takes too much screnetime and I don't feel the romance is really that well developed or is able to transmit the feelings it probably should.
In many ways, this movie is a proto-suzume, as suzume would later take a lot of concepts from this movie but polish them way better, it has way more of a clear focus and impact, it doesn't really feel as messy as this movie is and I just like it way more, but it's interesting to see the comparasion as they really are similar
in any case, I don't think this is necessarily a bad movie, I still enjoyed my time with it, but mainly because I really like the genre, so placed in C rank

it's good, according to miyazaki that is the last movie he will ever make
the boy and the heron is weird
very quick rundown, miyazaki hard-carried ghibli and honestly the anime industry during it's infancy. Miyazaki also has a son, goro miyazaki, but miyazaki may be cracked at making anime, not so much at being a father, he was kinda absent from goro's life, who originally worked in landscaping, however, they got them to join ghibli too as a "successor" of miyazaki, point is, goro isn't at the same level as their father, they are responsable for a lot of the weakest ghibli releases
thing is, the boy and the heron in many way is a very personal movie of miyazaki, it's heavily based on their life and what they feel, and in many ways, about their relationship with goro miyazaki, the movie is literally about an elder man that built a big magical tower and is retiring and needs someone to hold the tower, in many ways, the movie is about miyazaki trying to find someone to keep ghibli going
this is one of the slower ghibli movies, but it's not really relaxing like totoro or kiki, it's still part of the "go on a magical adventure" part of ghibli, it's probably one of the most artsy ghibli movies too, which is kinda risky considering they probably have the most mainstream audience out of any animation studio
I personally enjoyed the boy and the heron but it's a really hard movie to talk about

this anime is about a guy who is overworked at a company when a zombie apocalypse happens so he uses the fact that the world is ending and he doesn't have to work anymore to make a bucketlist (that's where the title of the anime comes from) of all the things he wants to do with his free time
first of all, the animation is really excelent, really good use of color, the blood on the zombies actually looks more like color paint which gives it a very unique feel and it stands out from other zombie shows
this show is primarily a comedy, the whole situation at the start is very absurd, like, you surely would act more distressed and serious to a zombie apocalypse right?, and well that may be true, what is interesting is that as the anime progresses, the protagonist actions aren't nosense, there is actually a real philosophy behind all of their actions and honestly I really respect it
the protagonist just follows an idea of "I would rather die now having enjoyed my life than trying to barely survive and expand my lifespan in agony", and honestly, that's not a bad mentality, I don't think I would have done the same, I don't think I could do the same, but man, you do you
every character is pretty well developed, they're not plain characters, they actually have some depth to them, it may not be the biggest, but I appreciate it, it's a lot more than what similar shows have. The side romance plot is actually also handled pretty well?, when it was first introduced I was kinda scared because "oh they're just forcing a romance plot here because it's what most animes do" but no, I was wrong, it didn't end up feeling forced at all, I think this is mainly because how little screentime it gets, it doesn't even get resolved by the end of the anime. I really like the decision of making the romance slow here, makes it feel more genuine
my only complaint about this anime is the finale the anime is kinda aimless, I don't think it's a bad thing, it's just a group of survivors surviving, but the last 2 chapters they kinda force a villain for the protagonsit to defeats and give a satisfactory ending, which I feel it's kinda out of tone with the rest of the anime, also, the manga is still ongoing and i'm like confident that it was handled differen't in the manga, I could also probably add that I wish they had tackled the themes of overworking with more nuance but honestly the way they tackle it isn't bad and maybe going too deap may clash with the general tone and vision of the anime so i'm not really going to complain about it

This is a weird one to talk about, in many ways, this is the yume nikki version of Cave Story Sex RPG 2007. There is a trend in itch.io of basically trans individuals making playable journals of their experiences, this is no exception, this game is the real story of someone who hyperfixated on yume nikki and found out they were trans because of it
the game is extremely short, like all of this, and it's mechanically really similar to the games of npckc, just, less polished
this type of videogame is really easy to make, anyone with a little bit of programming knowledge can do it, that + the fact that it's so short makes it so it takes a REALLY short time to develop, so in many ways, I don't really think this is a carefully crafted project.
The "plot" (the life recollections) are all over the place, this is basically a stream of conciousness videogame, it's not a carefully crafted plot like a year of springs, and also, the author doesn't really know how to express the story well. They currently are in a niche very terminally online subcommunity and mainly knows how to talk with people inside that community and in many ways this game makes asumptions about the readers which may not be true if the game escapes the sphere it was created in
but I can't be too mad at them, because I know this game isn't for me, it isn't for you either, it's for no one really, it's just that the act of creating this type of videogame is therapeutic, creating this game probably helped the author, so in that sense, this game has completed it's purpouse
also in general I have a lot of complaints about the general fandom culture this is so based on but i've already complained enough about it in the past (like when they say "it wont make sense if you haven't played yume nikkI" they don't actually refeer to having played yume nikki they refeer more to having spent 46 years in the yume nikki fandom)

City Lights
first time seeing an actual, old, silent film in full. More enjoyable than I had guessed really
city lights is a comedy movie made by the legendary charlie chaplin about this man who falls in love with a blind girl and kinda just gets into funny situations because of it
this movie is just a series of interconnected gags, there is actually a plot and it's pretty cute, but it's just mostly excuses to do more gags, and man, the gags are actually pretty damn good, it doesn't have dialogue so it's all very phyisical and very visual
something I noticed is that the movie is actually sped up, at first I thought that they just did it because it makes it funnier but no, it's actually because the camera only recorded at 18FPS so they had to speed the footage up to get it to 24FPS which is the bare minimun for film.
This movie isn't exactly "Silent", it has a soundtrack attached to it, and honestly i'm surprised by how much the movie leans into the sound, like having the sound effects for the gags be incorporated into the songs or even using a kazoo to depict people talking
it's unironically just a lot of nice light-hearted fun, it's really good, placed in A rank

I think the strangest one for me is bocchi in S. I don't really get it. Maybe because I haven't watched the anime, but is it that much better than the manga? I read your analysis, but you don't really say much about why you like it. Maybe me not liking Bocchi that much is the real hot take, I'd put it in B probably.

, I think the characters and the relationship between them are very good, the comedy is spot on, the music is unironically good for a music anime, animation is good, really, it's a anime on one of my favourite genres (slice of life CGDCT) that is done really well and there is nothing to hate, I've read the manga and while the manga is pretty good I feel most (good) music manga really gets exalted with the anime, tho, if you thought the manga was mid, I don't think your opinion on the anime is going to be all that differentrebuild eva being higher than original eva. like original eva is the goat man

This thread is a goddamn blessing to have because not only do we, as the audience, get to participate in providing the OP stuff to review in his own time, he gets to provide his own opinion on what he thinks about them. Any other thread could not compete with this level of activity, this level of trust, and this level of honesty. Not only do I believe that this thread is marvelous in its own right because of this generosity, he's doing it for fucking free! And I even managed to pick up a damn game out of it cause it interested me. So this thread is not only helpful and informational, but a very strong piece of writing when it comes to the real world. Patatitta is providing their own feedback on what they find fun and enjoyable, or agonizing and downright terrible to him. If I love a game to death, but he hates it to the very core, that's just opinions! That's how they work! It's a healthy communication, even if it isn't positively received.
Yeah, sure pirating isn't really good in many people's eyes (unless you're pirating adobe products which honestly that's perfectly fine cause adobe fucking sucks nowadays (I'm not saying you should do it, but you have the option)), but when you actively preach about something or lots of things either positively or negatively, you're going to attract the attention of those around you in both influences. Saying something is really good might lead to people buying a product, even if you pirated it. And who knows maybe the person preaching about it might buy a legitimate copy in the future. That's just how sales works, or atleast an indirect way of doing it.
So while Patatitta might have some spicy takes, everything should still be accounted for as an opinion. Just because you like something, doesn't mean it's universally loved. Someone else might hate it, someone might absolutely despise it. And some people don't even want to have it imprinted in their brains. You can't just be selfish and think about yourself when it comes to having thoughts about if one thing is good or bad, you have to understand why someone else would think opposite. Maybe there's a feature that ruins it for someone? Maybe someone really enjoys playing the game in that way? You have to think logically, and connect the dots on the table, because everyone has their own unique flavors and tastes they are trying to accomadate for in their life. Do they like shooters? Open world? Puzzles? Stealth? Adventure even?
Desperately needed to get that off my chest because I can't believe that people can't even have their own opinion, whether it be good or bad. It's almost 2025 and the internet is becoming more of a cesspool because of clashing idealogies, and the mentality of "well if you don't like it you clearly are stupid". Like what the fuck? I can't even tell if you're trolling because your reputation in this sub-forum just makes it look like you popped up out of nowhere and decided to be hostile. Like the reason I'm hostile at times is because I'm just a grumpy old fuck in this "dying" subforum and everyone somehow tolerates me. But I don't overdo it at times because I understand that there are moments that people are actually cool and entertaining and sometimes I just like to goof off. The only takes I'd say I disagree the most are the ef one since... It's supposed to focus on several couples, not a harem but rather an anthological-ish story. Well, apart from that relationship in the second season which had my eyebrow raised and/or frowning for the whole time. The Higurashi one I disagree too since one's supposed to watch the second season too but well, can't force it.
Apart from that I am aware that I am a SHAFT fanboy and a lover of its experimental style and I am aware that it's not for everyone.

I dont really think me thinking the manga is mid will make me think the anime is mid necessarily. I've heard it's a really good adaptation, and I remember that the Kaguya anime was so good that it made me realise quite a lot that I didn't realise while reading the manga, making me appreciate it overall more. But then again Kaguya was already S tier for me at that time so idk

For me, it was your GTA IV review. I simply didn't have any of the issues you've encountered with the story and gameplay. The only annoying things about the game was the friendship system and the messages/calls you had to wait for to get new missions. Besides that, I personally enjoyed the game a lot. As Coldtooth said, you're entitled to your own opinion and going through your highest rated games, I've noticed your taste in games is pretty different from mine and you like to focus on the story a lot of the time, which is fair.

Guardian's Crusade is 1998 JRPG about the hero character who is sent on a quest to bring a baby monster to god's tower and like kill a evil good, it's all VERY tipical JRPG stuff, so much I would say this is the most JRPG ever created, like it truly feels like the non-parody version of moon remix RPG adventure, there isn't much to say about the plot because of that
the combat is strange, you woudld believe it would operate like every other RPG in the world but not really, you can do three actions, basic attack, spell (called living toys in this game) and block, which is completely fucking useless like in every other RPG before this decade when they actually figured out how to make good turn based combat
You have your regular spells, like "heal yourself" but for most of the damage one you basically create a summon that acts like another compannion of yours, they will do the attack that they are assigned to until they diek, there is a max cap of total active summons and if you hit cap you can't even use your non-reusable spells. This is kinda boring design, why?, because you kinda just set up all your summons and then you spam basic attack until the enemy dies, it's really, really, really simplistic, even the final boss you kill it by spamming basic attack, in half the combats I didn't even use spells just basic attack all the way, if that doens't work, just maybe farm a little bit and come back
you are also given a lot of living toys and honestly you don't really use 3/4 of them, also some of them are really non-descriptive, also you can't use the healing one out of combat which is kinda annoying,
the biggest problem of this game is that honestly it's pretty shit at explaining itself, like, you have a compannion that is supposed to guide you that you can consult at any times but most of the time they just go "We need to obtain this item" and you're like ok how do I do that where do I go so you just have to google it if you don't want to spend way too long on mundane tasks
this isn't jsut directions that are confusing, but some core gameplay mechanics
in my playthrough, the baby which is your companion in battle kinda sucked ass, they would die quickly and then not get XP for that combat so they would fall even more underleveled and they also revived with 1hp and without overworld healing there was nothing much I could do about it
thing is, the game is easy, so that was never a problem, never really had trouble with anything in the game, that is until I reach the final boss, where I kinda just do all my same strats and deal like A LOT of damage to it, there is no HP bar so I couldn't tell how far I was from killing it. The combat was really long since the optimal strategy is to just only use your MP in healing and that is slow, and then the final boss kills me, after that I go "wtf how much hp do they have" so I google it and I see that I should have killed it by now but apparently the boss has different phases and for me to be able to go to phase 2 I had to trigger a dialogue from baby, but baby sucks and they die turn 1 so I was like how the fuck????? so I learn that apparently YOU COULD FEED IT EQUIPEMENT DURING THE WHOLE GAME AND THAT WOULD BOOST IT'S STATS AND APPARENTLY THAT IS WHAT I HAD TO DO THIS ENTIRE GAME, THIS IS NOT EXPLAINED OR NEEDED FOR THE REST OF THE GAME. so I kinda just go back and try to farm for stats but it's extremely slow so I just give up and put a cheat code on and beat the game that way

Vivy: Fluorite Eye's Song
Original anime about music and time travel that is neither a music anime or a time travel anime but it's stil good
the plot is that there is a society where really advanced humanoid robots exist, and a robot is created to sing, and after a while a robot from the future tells her that they need to collaborate to save the world from an AI revolution
the time travel aspect of the anime are very light, since they don't actually time travel, they just have a quest from the future, and the anime is that 100 years quest
The music element is also mot really present either, yes, the robot does sing, but honestly the actual music takes such a small part of the anime that it's not really worth talking much about it
The way they resolve the problems is pretty boring given how cool a lot of the concepts of the anime are and how well written the characters are, at the end of the day they just beat people up and that ends up working and I just find that a shame since they clearly have the talent and the skills to do stuff that is WAY more interest than simple action which honestly for action scenes there are way better anime
What I find interesting and what hard-carries the anime is the worldbuilding and the animation
The animation looks great and fairly unique, there is no real reason of why vivy looks like that, it just does and it's neat
The worldbuilding is actually pretty good, every robot is built with a single objective in mind, they have all the capabilities of a human yet they will work to only make 1 specified task, the objectives of the two main characters are singing and saving the world by changing certain events in history. Point is, they're quite different
In many ways, this is all contrary to their interests, if they're AI's, why wouldn't they want an AI revolution?, why get mixed up in all of that in the first place?. If you were placed in a situation where you have to save the world, that would always be your #1 priority, you would minimize the risks and do whatever needs to be done, for vivy, the protagonist, that isn't the case, as her #1 priority is singing, so that leads her to make really bad choices at time that puts at danger the entire world, but it's hard to dislike that character even if they make really bad choices because you understand why she choose the things she did and honestly that is in general a plot and overall character dynamic that I really respect

i'm around halfway through titanfall 2, honestly, didn't expect to enjoy it as much as I'm enjoying it
Original anime about music and time travel that is neither a music anime or a time travel anime but it's stil good
the plot is that there is a society where really advanced humanoid robots exist, and a robot is created to sing, and after a while a robot from the future tells her that they need to collaborate to save the world from an AI revolution
the time travel aspect of the anime are very light, since they don't actually time travel, they just have a quest from the future, and the anime is that 100 years quest
The music element is also mot really present either, yes, the robot does sing, but honestly the actual music takes such a small part of the anime that it's not really worth talking much about it
The way they resolve the problems is pretty boring given how cool a lot of the concepts of the anime are and how well written the characters are, at the end of the day they just beat people up and that ends up working and I just find that a shame since they clearly have the talent and the skills to do stuff that is WAY more interest than simple action which honestly for action scenes there are way better anime
What I find interesting and what hard-carries the anime is the worldbuilding and the animation
The animation looks great and fairly unique, there is no real reason of why vivy looks like that, it just does and it's neat
The worldbuilding is actually pretty good, every robot is built with a single objective in mind, they have all the capabilities of a human yet they will work to only make 1 specified task, the objectives of the two main characters are singing and saving the world by changing certain events in history. Point is, they're quite different
In many ways, this is all contrary to their interests, if they're AI's, why wouldn't they want an AI revolution?, why get mixed up in all of that in the first place?. Titanfall 2
This is a game I had heard a lot about in the past about how it was peak, but I always ignored it because AAA shooter which for me is a BIG red flag, I even got the very ending spoiled, but now i've played it, and man, this is GOOD, I would like to say this is the best shooter ever created but it's hard to say that when ultrakill is right there
I've only played the campaign, but apparently looking online the campaign is more popular than the multiplayer which for a shooter like this is saying A LOT
The plot is about this war between the good guys and the bad guys and you're good and your captain pilots like a cool mech but he dies and he makes you it's succesor so you and your mecha friend BT try to end the war. This is the only negative thing I have to say about this game, the setting feels way too simplistic and in a bad way
In titanfall 2, the titans (the big robots), are like a overwhelming force, it takes an army to take down a single titan, they're THAT powerful, you see in the cinematics, and you honestly feel it too when you're piloting the titan. But here is the thing, when you're the one on the ground fighting a titan, then that titan is weak, it doesn't feel like you're battling a overwhelming force, I once killed one in 2 uses of a rocket launcher.
The point also is that the link between BT and the protagonist is like really strong and that is what makes them so powerful, I understand that, but are you telling me that no pilot has such connection for the rival faction?, like, the bosses are in fact stronger and you may say "well they have a strong link with their titan", but why are they the only ones with that link?, you are literally a random soldier, so why cant any of the enemy random soldiers also be strong?, This does feel like weak writting and honestly a little bit like propaganda. The enemy is both a constant and scary danger that must be respected and dealt with but also barbaric and inferior to us, not only in ideology but skills in the battlefield as well, and the reasons of why this is like this is never really explained, they're just really plain villains
now, everything else in the game is fucking perfect. BT is a really engaging character that doesn't really fall into any of the tropes or pitfalls of your typical robot character, the movement feels great, tho I will say, I don't think i've really used the super cool wallruning that much outside the expected platforming sections, I'm pretty sure that if I were good at the game I would and it would be the fucking sickest thing ever but I enver reached that skill level in the game.
That didn't stop the gameplay from feeling cool, it did feel REALLY cool, it was constant adrenaline, the shooting and the weapons felt great, the level design is really amazing, and in multiple circumstances I found myself playing not the way I knew it was optimal, but that it felt cooler, and honestly that is good game design
after having a few levels just of you getting used to everything they start throwing out gimmicks to each level and they work really well except for that one level when you have to move cranes which does feel pretty boring, but the level when you can like travel between the past and the future is actually so peak
the game honestly looks beautiful, and not necessarily because of it having the highest resolution graphics, it's just that the environments are really well crafted
this game is also only 6 hours, that is a huge positive, because it doesn't fucking waste your time, every single moment is so beautifully crafter and works just so, so well, tho there is the random collectables that the game could be better out without tbh
I was conflicted if this was an S or an A, but honestly after thinking a wahile about it, decided to go for a A
