Qualifier Stage

  1. There will be 5 maps, consisting of 2 Rice-based, 2 LN-based, and 1 Hybrid
  2. Players will be scheduled to a multiplayer room according to their availability.
  3. Each player will get 2 attempts at each map, only the best attempt for each map will count
  4. Each map will have its own leaderboard, and each player's overall seed will be determined by the average of these ranks. The top 48 players of the qualifiers will proceed to the next rounds.
  5. The top 16 players immediately advance to the Bracket Stage. Players seeded from 17 to 48 will have to participate in the play-offs.

Play-offs

  1. Players who are participating in this round will face each other in a one-on-one Best of 7 match.
  2. Match ups are determined by this formula: 65 - seed. (This means that 17 will face 48, 18 vs 47, and so on)
  3. Mappool Size is indicated as follows: 4 Rice-based, 2 LN-based, 3 Hybrids, 1 Tiebreaker
  4. Winners from the play-offs will take the final 16 slots in the Bracket Stage. The losers are eliminated.

Bracket Stage

  1. Players are seeded into a double-elimination bracket. They comprise of the Top 16 from the qualifiers and the winners from the Play-offs to top up the remaining 16 slots.
  2. Mappool Sizes and Best of Format for each round are given as follows:
    1. Round of 32 (Best of 7)- 4 Rice-based, 2 LN-based, 3 Hybrids, 1 Tiebreaker
    2. Round of 16 (Best of 9) - 5 Rice-based, 3 LN-based, 3 Hybrids, 1 Tiebreaker
    3. Quarterfinals and Semifinals (Best of 11)- 6 Rice-based, 4 LN-based, 3 Hybrids, 1 Tiebreaker
    4. Finals and Grand Finals (Best of 13)- 7 Rice-based, 5 LN-based, 3 Hybrids, 1 Tiebreaker

Match Rules

  1. The multiplayer room will be created and invites sent to players 5-10 minutes prior to the match start time.
  2. If a player is more than 10 minutes late to the for their match, the player inside the MP room will be declared the winner. If neither player appears, the player with the higher seed will be considered the winner.
  3. Each player will be allowed to select 1 map as a warmup. Warmups must be uploaded to the osu! servers and cannot exceed 4 minutes in length.
  4. Players can choose to ban 1 map from the mappool (excluding the tiebreaker). The pick/ban order is determined by the !roll command. The player with the lower roll bans first and the player with the higher roll picks first. Players will alternate picks until a match winner is decided.
  5. If both players are tied on match point (e.g. 3-3 score in a Best-of-7), the players will play the tiebreaker map of the pool to determine the winner.
  6. Players are given 2 minutes to ban/pick maps when it is their turn. Failure to do so means that the referee will ban/pick at random in behalf of the player.
  7. Players are eligible to use a 2 minute tactical time out once per match. They are only allowed to use it when it is their turn to pick. It will take into effect after the pick timer has expired.

Player Eligibility

Players who are ranked #1000 to #40000 in the osu!mania 7K-only rankings will be allowed to join the tournament.

For full disclosure: The hosts do hold the opinion that while this restriction might be too lenient, this is the best allowable scenario for eligibility for official support. Player performance in this tournament will be used in order to create a proper skillbanning methodology for future editions of this tournament, or if any similar projects are made.

We are introducing an honor code for the players to know whether to sit this tournament out instead. Do note that this is not needed to be followed aside from the main restriction already stated.

The MALT Honor Code

In order to have fair competition to the target audience of this tournament, the hosts hope that the following would honor our request to sit this tournament out:
  1. Players capable of qualifying in the osu!mania 7K World Cup
  2. Players capable of getting S-rank passes on or beyond Insane 8th Dan-level charts (This is already 3 dans harder than the targeted grand finals difficulty.)

why not just make the initial player eligibility #5001-40000 instead of starting at #1000 and hoping that players follow an honor code

Essentially three reasons

  1. Official support (hence, the very specific rank range + we're being conservative with it)
  2. "capable of qualifying in mwc" means exactly that. Yeah, sure you can register at 5000 and above, that doesn't assure that you can help qualify your team to the brackets.
  3. Tournaments like these require a more nuanced approach especially with how wonky ranks work. only thing we're confident enough is that if you're capable of hitting 3 digit ranks on 7k, you're more than capable enough to play stuff beyond the scope of the tournament.
To elaborate a bit more on the last point: There was an initial plan on creating a mathematical model to indicate a boundary on who can join or not. 4-Digit MWC 4K has something like that, and we have the same personnel working on it for this tournament. The plan postponed mostly due to lack of data for 7K specifically, hence resorting to the "Honor Code".
