After some discussion both internally and within the community, I've decided to post a proposal regarding the pattern length of 1/4 patterns for Muzukashii difficulties.

The guideline in question:

  1. 1/4 patterns should not be longer than five notes. Anything longer is likely to be too straining for intermediate players.

Change to:

  1. 1/4 patterns must not be longer than five notes. Anything longer is too straining for the target audience of this difficulty level.

And additionally move it to Rules.

This is because this Guideline has already been pretty much enforced heavily for a long time now, making the current Guideline rather confusing, especially for newcomers. This change would help to clarify the current standards and make guidance for proper spreading indirectly easier for people starting out.

If you have any wording suggestions or feel like this is totally out of place, please leave a comment. Any feedback is welcome. If nothing comes up, this change will be applied around next week.

+1 Agree, have never seen the justification of anything higher than a 1/4 5plet. Unless it's a really low BPM, like really low.

Yeah sure, I find it difficult to even justify 5-plets so making sure nobody attempts something higher is good

thing im confusing is why only adjusting the muzukashii one but not other diffs?
for example

this for futsuu

and this for oni

imo this would create some confusions like i stated above
cuz these guidelines are from the same idea : "avoid stuff being too hard to target players"

Because Muzus are the 1/4 entry diffs and should therefore need a stricter adjustment to maintain that entry type of patterning.

For Futsuu, 1/2 is basic snapping from the get-go and Oni uses 1/4 frequently anyway, so the ceiling can potentially be higher in more circumstances than it should be for Muzus

agree, the wording change would pretty much stop the confusion for most people as i used to struggle with this as well when i got into mapping lol
