I thought we should have a thread like this to help people create better beatmaps, though i'm no expert myself :)

One thing i've seen in a lot of beatmaps is they're really chaotic with the beat placement... If you recall, on ouendan, the distance between one circle and another is meant to help you time your hits, as far-away beats mean you'll have to wait a bit before pressing that one, so try to not go all trigger-happy and place 1/8 beats everywhere, as it makes the song frustrating and kinda pointless.

Be creative with your sliders! the reverse function is there for a good reason! Instead of placing many fast notes, you can achieve the same sound by using a slider with reverse.

Remember to use whistles and beat finishes. The game is still lacking the cheering sounds, which make it way more interesting, so be sure to use all the features you have available now!

Keep it short but steady. This one is more of a personal thought, but 2 minutes is long enough for a song. Longer than that makes it boring and repetitive, as many people tend to just copy/paste the beats again and again.

On the same topic, remember you don't have cutscenes to keep the song fresh, so try to incorporate some "break points", so players can get a good grip on the mouse and reposition it.

Thats it for now, go ahead and contribute! :P

Have you read through the editor guide thread above? ;)
Could probably incorporate some of this stuff into it - seems better than having two threads which are trying to achieve the same thing!

haha yeah sorry, though yours is more of a technical guide for the program... this one is focused on making it ouendan-like ;P

also...
if someone has problems with the in-game bpm calculator distracting you with the beeping (like me :x), you can use this one, which is really basic but helps a lot:
