i don’t watch anime regularly but i noticed something that was happening during this and last year

basically there’s just a random new anime that comes out every year that seemingly everybody even outside of the anime fandom talks about

for example i think last year’s was spy x family and this year is oshi no ko

like last year i saw at least 3 anya cosplays at comic con and im fully expecting an ai one when i go this year

does this actually happen or am i just overthinking it

Happens all the time after anime hit the mainstream. Nowadays there's always gonna be one anime that stands out in a season, whether it be Spy x Family or Oshi no ko like you've said. Most normies only watched what's the most popular among the anime fandom and so it gets skyrocketed more into popularity because of it, leaving the other few good anime behind.
I AM VERY SMART
Society wants us to see the most popular anime of the season (Spy x Family, Oshi no ko, etc.), leaving the less popular ones unread

Why do you have to make it look so complex lmao.

It's simple. Good anime ---> becomes popular ---> gets shared and recommended more with people ---> gets more popular

Sometimes, good anime don't always become very popular.

Yeah that's what I'm trying to say. More better and popular anime always overshadow the other good ones. It's like what Oshi no Ko is doing right now with Demon Slayer's Swordsmith Village Arc and Jigokuraku.
