what made you play this game less often or just stop entirely?

for me it was the fact that i wasnt improving as fast as others and that i found other interests

The ranked mapping shift from 2017-2021 to 2022-2023

It completely killed my motivation to play and since I've only had 2 months where I've had over 2,000 play count. Most of the newly ranked 6+* maps hardly give any PP or the average nomod player is going to have a hard time FCing or even passing the maps as the leaderboards will be full of A ranks and B ranks for weeks.
Aireunaeus
well i do play the game frequently rn but because i lack consistency etc, i kind of lose motivation at it. but it'll get better someday. just not right now

This is one of the greatest threads I've ever seen from G&R.

Anyways, after playing for like 6-7 months? I was so frustrated that I couldn't improve beyond 5*. It was only until then I realized that way of playing to pass maps was entirely wrong and I had to start again. Unfortunately I made up my mind that I wasted too much time wasting my life trying to reach a goal that ultimately doesn't matter that much and quit the game. It was actually pretty healthy for me since I had anger issues back then and the constant failure I kept receiving definitely didn't help it. After like a month break, I decided to switch to mania and I've had more fun since then.

But look where I am now, completely quit W from the osu in general. Now my only connection with this game is through these forums that I keep engaging in and giving worthy advice to players when despite me quitting a long time ago.
AccountWontWork
other than me injuring my fingers and me needing to take 1-2 day breaks I pretty much always play osu.

I stopped playing for a month because the pain in my tapping arm was getting really bad from over playing.

I think I realised what i was doing and how stupid it looked, and when you say it out loud, it does sound kinda stupid. I still play Taiko on osu and taiko no tatsujin on switch, but, it does get repetitive when you're grinding patterns just to learn them. Its the end goal and the completion of fc'ing a map that gives you that endorphins rush, it keeps you playing. Damn you dean peppy herbet

Since most of my friends no longer play osu
I miss the days of competing with friends for scores

Yea...I mostly hate these hard diffs, because they all look the same..

The pattern that ticks me off the most has always been the slider + two stacks bursts...I hate these kinds of bursts so much, especially when there's one right next to right after a slider, which makes it not only very hard to read and hard to hit especially for high bpm, but it looks so ugly...

The same similar thing can be also applied to Normal diffs, I see this frikin pattern over and over ;w;

(That's why I always either do a triple stack or I just space these three when I map instead of stacking two and space one ewww...lol)

Also I really do NOT like high bpm hard diffs, they are being treated the exact same as a 140bpm, 200bpm singletapping is already pretty hard for newbies like me ;w; Basically: Some mapper always puts a 1/2 and it never stops causing the player to get exhausted and choke...
I try to make a 1/1 pause when there are enough 1/2's in the timeline to not make the players get too exhausted, when I wanna map a high bpm map on a hard diff.

(okay I don't want to actively hate on this map, plz no :< but this one's a very good example or the new hard diffs that I don't like: beatmapsets/1906151#osu/3967393)

also what I don't like is that every single map is like made with free visual spacing...it may look cool, but distance snap mapping? what do we get? easy to hard diffs! okay sorta makes sense..
insane and extra? N O O O P E ._____________. a higher dif-??? bruuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuh

Also did you guys remember when tech mapping and jumps felt like two alternative universes, now it's combined into one and yeeeeaaahhh..I can easily see why people hate this kind of mapping meta...

(okay hear me out I am a boomer that likes old mapping way more than the new mapping...but...)
I miss Leorda's early mapping style quite a bit, because she used distance snap no matter what diff., even though her maps are not that great, especially her first maps... ;_;
(Though that can be said about some grid maps, but cmon..this is the true distance snap queen..lmao)

(sorry I got a bit heated on these kinds of maps, but I hope that they'll learn this mistake eventually..? idk...I got a bit too heated sorry '''>~<''')

Burnout. Played this game for too long and only enjoyment I get anymore is from cool gimmicky maps, mostly finger/aim control and reading maps, or maps with banger songs where the mapping itself is secondary. And also just accepted that the way I enjoy the game just goes strongly against growing my pp. I'm just trash at speed meta and not as interested in perfectionism.

If you guys aren't referring to college then ngl you should improve your time management skills. Depending on your country, school hours don't take up that much of your day. I at least could still play the game everyday and my school hours are on the far end.

It's better if you planned out your day and remove any distractions you have in order to save enough time for playing the game, and maybe even do other hobbies since there's still a ton of time you can use after school hours are over.

If your parents already let you play some weird game with circles and anime women in the first place then it's probably no problem. Just don't let them see those almost-hentai backgrounds though.

We know very well how our parents think after they saw, one day, one of those anime girls in a beatmap's background...

Most parents are supportive of their kid's passions even when they don't undertstand themselves. They might think it's a little weird but they won't take away something that makes you happy unless they're shit parents or you're doing something that's harming yourself or others.

Or strict Asian parents lol. I grew up with that and barely had internet or computer access at all, but I'm a late Millennial and the internet and computers weren't as widespread back then compared to how Zoomers have it today. I didn't gain the freedom to really enjoy games and hobbies until I was an adult, and started osu in my early 20s partly due to that.
But I do agree the excuse of no time because of "life" is usually BS. It's more because you simply don't have the energy or passion for it. Back when I was the most absorbed in osu, I was working full time with 30 minute commute and still played after getting home even if it was for a little, I just had more energy and passion for it that I was willing to set aside some time even when exhausted from a day of work. Of course I don't have that energy anymore and playing a circle clicking game isn't important enough for me to prioritize over other things during my day, like just relaxing or reading.

Was playing bad and wasn't having much fun. I'll probably be back to playing sometime soon though.

Its college, its painful. Some things are getting interesting in college so Osu is becoming less of my priority. Then theres mobile legends blocking me to play other games. I just want to delete that game but my monkey brain wont let me.

One of the primary factors that led me to reduce my gaming hours significantly is the remarkable improvement displayed by my former rivals. While I remained stagnant at the same rank for nearly two years, they seemed to have transcended to an entirely new level of skill.

This lack of significant progress on my part, coupled with incessant comparisons to other players, ultimately eroded my motivation and eventually led me to stop playing as much as I used to.

lmao that game's always been a staple in our country. Maybe you should make your friends play other multiplayer games so you could ease into playing less.

As much as you all wanna play osu, it's never good to forsake your responsibilities and miss out on the important aspects of you life. Unless you're a streamer or top player, you won't be able to make a living out of playing osu. Heck, I'm not sure if top players have stable income.

Busy, losing interest due to burn out (i am the type that can't play a game forever, must take break every so often), and bad at the game. Also my mouse/keyboard usually breaks when i am popping off.

I didn't say that I want to live my life by playing osu, just that I was used to play the game a lot during vacation. Now, I'll no longer tryhard osu until the next vacation (not the weekend because I go outside with friends so I don't have the time)

I don't wish you to have the carpal tunnel syndrome but in case you think that you have it, try wrist exercises or ice it on the pain; if it continues, go to see a doctor and he'll give you what you need to limit the pain.

try wrist exercises
I think wrist exercises should only be done after the pain is identified and dealt with. It's like telling a patient recovering his legs from a car crash to immediately start doing physical therapy.
