This rule, for some reason, only apply for map's sb or bg video, and may allow things like gameplay elements that have epilepsy-enducing features to reach it's way to the ranked section (without a marker)ranking criteria wrote:
Difficulties that contain repetitive strobes, pulsing images, or rapid changes in contrast, brightness or colour in the storyboard or video must use an epilepsy warning. If the warning interferes with gameplay, audio lead-in must be made longer. Strobing effects at 3 Hz (i.e. 3 flashes per second) and below are unlikely to cause concern. When in doubt, add the warning and confirm its necessity during the modding process.
For example: beatmapsets/1689606#osu/3452881
This map has a section at 04:50:849 which is quite epilepsy-enducing with it's kiai flashes, under current ruling the mapper don't have to add an epilepsy warning for the map, in fact that nearly happened
Another example would be: beatmapsets/1329045#osu/2753127
The mapper themself said that the map contain patterns that can be epilepsy-enducing in the description (im pretty sure they're mentioning these sliders 00:33:955 (1) - 00:39:602 (1) - ) again under current ruling the mapper don't have to add an epilepsy warning if the map didn't contain the sb that's also epilepsy-enducing
This new proposal will change the rule to:
